If any of you own a Wii U there's a neat application that's just been released for it called: Art Academy: Atelier. It's essentially a "How to" Art program which teaches you all the different kinds of techniques with pencil, paints, charcoal etc... except you draw it digitally on the Wii U's Gamepad (pretty much an ipad).
When it comes to drawing/painting of any kind I am about as artistic as I ame good at picking out tie colours. I can barely draw stick figures. But I thought I'd give it a go.
Here was the first lesson. A tomato using pastels.
A bit naff, right? I was still getting used to the idea of drawing digitally, so it came out a bit blobby.
The second lesson was drawing an apple with a pencil effect.
A little better maybe.
The third lesson I had to sketch a bonsai tree just from looking at an image, no real direction from the "tutor". This is what I ended up with.
Tony Hart would be proud, no?
Things went a bit downhill when the next lesson was using charcoal, and I had to draw two lilies...
... anyway, moving on. Charcoal sucks anyway.
The latest lesson went back to pastels, but using more shading and forming. I had to draw a strawberry.
I'm actually stunned I could create this.
Now, I don't know if I'll be able to reproduce these onto an actual canvas, but I've definitely learnt a few things I completely ignored during art class at school. And anyone who wants to learn some art and try it themselves should definitely give it a go. But you'll need a Wii U.
I'll keep posting my creations to see if I really improve in any area.
