I sat an exam yesterday and ended up on the first row (a seat i hate) anyway just after the exam began a couple of the invigilators decided to stand right in front of me and have a conversation - they were told to stop by another - but a few minutes later they were back doing the same thing!! So now I can't decide whether to e-mail a complaint or not!!!

Did it affect your performance/concentration?
If they were puting you off your concentration go for it and email them
Unless it was throughout the whole exam I feel it would be a bit petty to complain.

I would complain because it's incredibly insensitive of them not to understand that having a conversation in the middle of an exam is going to be distracting. The fact that it was bought to their attention and they still continued would suggest that they have no business being invigilators - go ahead and complain

it did put me off - but i am not trying to use it as an excuse to get extra marks i just think that it is wrong of them to do it!!
You can complain but make sure you do it now otherwise they won't believe you. Also its probably not going to achieve anything.

Well if so, I would complain. I agree with Trix-ster though, you should do it now, before you get your results.
It will get them a telling off. I have invigilated before but wouldn't dream of talking to another invigilator during the exam.
If I did that my exams department would raise it with me.

the thing is there are areas of the room where they will be nowehere near the students so could chat - but it was just the fact that they did it right in front of me!!
Why didn't you say anything at the time? If it was me, I'd have said: "Excuse me, could you please be quiet?"

basically because i am extremely shy - i would never say anything in such circumstances!!
Yes because there is supposed to be total silence in the exams , and if it distracted you then complain. If you said something then they would have accused you of breaking the no talking rule and probably would have took your paper off you.
Aw pretty P you should have done a rather loud ssSHHHH in their direction at the time. Shy or not you are entitled to have peace and quiet for your exam.
Unfortunately complaining now is a bit late for you as nothing will be done about it now - the moment has passed.
Best of luck with your results though

I doubt that would have happened, if it was THEIR talking you were bringing attention to.

Gah, complain and hope for some extra marks! Doesn't everyone have a cherished hamster die the day before an exam these days?

Some ppl always try and make excuses but I am not one of those - the day before I had my first exam and on the same day my mum had an operation so i was really stressed but I never mentioned anything about it to anyone at uni!!
OK I have complained about this - no idea of anything will be done but it made me feel better!!

It was their responsibilty to be quiet, not yours to regulate their behaviour- you had more important things to concentrate on, so yes, complain imo

Well done! I can imagine how distracting that must have been, and like you, I doubt if I would have felt able to say anything to them at the time. Good luck with the rest of your exams.
Yes I would complain if they were chatting for more than a few minutes and they continued even when asked to stop. You would be booted out if you chatted through the course of the exam.quote:Originally posted by Pretty_P:
