Things are worse than they first thought - he has had surgery on his bowel and bladder, but they need to give him more surgery as everything below his chest is pretty mangled. He has been kept under sedation, but the little bit of good news is they roused him a tiny bit and asked him if he had any pain and he pointed to his stomach and gave a thumbs up sign, so they think there has been no brain damage.

It is very touch and go though, they are being told to take each hour as it comes. They can't say for sure that he will make it. He is on a ventilator as well.

The welfare officer is taking great care of them, with accommodation and all meals taken care of. He is also sorting out their insurance. My friend is overwhelmed with the support she is being offered, her local pub is already fundraising for them.

As for my friend - she is knocked sideways, though being incredibly strong - she has not broken down in front of the girls, though apparently she broke down badly last night after seeing him. She knows that her whole life is gone and now she has to figure out how to live this one.

They said that as he is such a healthy strong bloke it's why he's got this far as many wouldn't have made it.

I'm still in total shock and still praying for him and the family.

Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers...

Frowner This is heartbreaking.

Will be hoping for them all.

I have no idea what else I could possibly say.

I am so sorry Dab, for you, for him, for your friend and their girls.

My friend's husband has been seriously injured in Afghanistan on Tuesday after his vehicle was hit by a IED (Improvised Explosive Device) - he's lost both legs and has severe internal injuries.

He's in surgery right now having his bowel and bladder repaired and his pelvis is a complete mess.

He's got 2 small children and a lovely wife.

Why is life is so shit?

My candle is lit and I'm praying he makes it through tonight. They've got a terribly long journey of recovery ahead...

I just can't stop crying and thinking about how their lives are going to be from now on. I keep looking at their recent photos on FB on his last visit home in June so happy, healthy and full of life.

God damn this bloody war!

Sadly one young lad who was in the same vehicle lost his life and has left a one year old son and a fiancee.

Sorry for the awful post but I am just shocked and so sad right now Frowner

British Troops should never have been sent there - will ever Afghanistan help us ?? yes we are pouring tens of millions of pounds into that blasted and a place a nuke would fix it.Young men are taken in their prime - wives and mothers and children grieve - and that slob in Downing Street is sococky .......how i hate that man for his irresponsibilty and sheer lack of repect for human life.Where next willhe send them to fight - Iran ? Korea ?

Idoubt if there are mant people joining upright now - i wouldnt.

I pray all goes well - it saddens me very much - as you can see - to read about young brave men being butchered.

This war shouldnt be on in the ist place.... The politicians should send their kids up front and see if they are happy with the war..

I have to agree with this, let's see how commited they are to their war/s then. Mad

Instead, while they are happy for our sons (and daughters) to go and face death for 'freedom', they are hard at work stripping us of our hard won freedoms over here. Mad

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers everyone.

He is going in for his second operation today with specialists brought in to try to stabilise his pelvis and investigate things more. Should be about 4 to 6 hours in surgery if all goes to plan.

Please send positive vibes and prayers his way as he really needs it and so does my friend. We are all exhausted just worrying about it all and just want it all to go well and then start his long road to recovery.

Thanks again one and all Hug
