My friend's husband has been seriously injured in Afghanistan on Tuesday after his vehicle was hit by a IED (Improvised Explosive Device) - he's lost both legs and has severe internal injuries.

He's in surgery right now having his bowel and bladder repaired and his pelvis is a complete mess.

He's got 2 small children and a lovely wife.

Why is life is so shit?

My candle is lit and I'm praying he makes it through tonight. They've got a terribly long journey of recovery ahead...

I just can't stop crying and thinking about how their lives are going to be from now on. I keep looking at their recent photos on FB on his last visit home in June so happy, healthy and full of life.

God damn this bloody war!

Sadly one young lad who was in the same vehicle lost his life and has left a one year old son and a fiancee.

Sorry for the awful post but I am just shocked and so sad right now Frowner

My God Frowner My prayers are with the family and friends.... Hug

This war shouldnt be on in the ist place.... The politicians should send their kids up front and see if they are happy with the war..

Clapping and what about the Royals??? The boys are trained up for it so why not use them
Did they not go with maximum security to protect them a few years ago? This is just not fair, the common man goes and dies everyday while the politicians kids are protected.....

Yup - I dont want to take over this thread with it - but it makes me sick. The 'Royals' do their training - and what for?? For Wills n Harry to large it up in clubs and borrow chenooks for whatever theyre called for dates. None of them royals/politician decision makers give a shit - have any of THEM lost a son or daughter in Iran/Iraq/Afghanistan???? No need to reply, as I said, I dont want to take over the thread - just really pisses me off

Don't worry about hijacking the thread guys as it pisses me off too.

I'm just too tired and emotional to debate/discuss it right now but feel free to carry on...

I don't wanna go to bed as I'm waiting for more news and will be too scared to log on in the morning. I'm so tired now though.

My head is spinning and my heart is aching for them all.

Thanks for all the Hug everyone Valentine

I'm so sorry Lazybug, my boy was in the army for 8 years, when he used to come home on leave I used to fantasise about causing him an injury to prevent him from being sent anywhere. Luckily he got a minor injury while on a tour & left the army. My heart goes out to all the families, wives, girlfriends, husbands & boyfriends of our brave boys & girls. I am an insomniac because of my son's army career. Hug Valentine

I don't know how you coped for all those 8 years. My friends husband is the only one I know out there and that's bad enough but to have your own child out there fighting for the country is just too much for me to contemplate Hug

we will all be thinking of your friend and her husband, and of course, you tonight.

The 'power' in this country should lead by example. They wouldnt be so ready to send OUR family members out to fight/start a war that is nothing to do with us Mad

I just had an update...

Things are worse than they first thought - he has had surgery on his bowel and bladder, but they need to give him more surgery as everything below his chest is pretty mangled. He has been kept under sedation, but the little bit of good news is they roused him a tiny bit and asked him if he had any pain and he pointed to his stomach and gave a thumbs up sign, so they think there has been no brain damage.

It is very touch and go though, they are being told to take each hour as it comes. They can't say for sure that he will make it. He is on a ventilator as well.

The welfare officer is taking great care of them, with accommodation and all meals taken care of. He is also sorting out their insurance. My friend is overwhelmed with the support she is being offered, her local pub is already fundraising for them.

As for my friend - she is knocked sideways, though being incredibly strong - she has not broken down in front of the girls, though apparently she broke down badly last night after seeing him. She knows that her whole life is gone and now she has to figure out how to live this one.

They said that as he is such a healthy strong bloke it's why he's got this far as many wouldn't have made it.

I'm still in total shock and still praying for him and the family.

Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers...

Lazybug Valentine I have tears in my eyes reading this thread, no words are enough..

I pray he pulls through and they are given the help from this Country that they deserve Hug

Such a terrible story over a needless & illegal War, when are our politicians going to wake up and get them all the hell out of there and back with their families where they belong!
