Pirate I hate the dentist.....I am in tears if I know I have to have any work done but a few years ago I got a new dentist who understood the anxiety and I am his only adult patient as he usually only deals with kids   He is very patient with me and gives me the kids numbing cream before the needles (stop laughing).  He knows how stressed I get before coming to see him but he has been so good that I have never needed anything other than the odd filling in the years I've been with him and on my most recent visit he said my teeth were perfect and that is due to him being so nice that I am not afraid to go see him when I have ANY trouble or hint of pain whereas years ago I would have let my teeth fall out before I would have went near a dentist.

Find a good dentist, get the treatment you need and then GO BACK every few months for your check ups so they can spot any trouble before it leaves you in pain.  Prevention is a LOT less painful than leaving them get so bad you are tempted to pull them out yourself.

I'm not laughing because that's exactly what MY dentist does too.

He also takes a very slow - but gentle - amount of time in proceeding with any injection.

I don't feel a thing.  Not a thing.

And I never get any after pain either once the meds have worn off.

If a dentist can't do his work without the patient feeling pain or excessive discomfort then he's not a good dentist, imo.

It's a BIG thing, Ells, when you consider that there are dentists still out there who have no care for their patients' pain!

I had a doctor (years ago) and he said that "in this day and age no one should suffer pain".  I found a dentist who felt the same

My old dentist knew of my fear and decided that the best thing for him to do was tell me I was having a check up and while doing the usual 'B1 sound, B2 sound' thing that they do, must have sad something in code to the nurse because next thing I know there's a huge needle being jabbed into my mouth and I'm screaming and calling him all the b*stards of the day with the needle still in my mouth.  I think he was more shocked than I was at my reaction because he sent me out to the waiting room to calm down and let the stuff work and when I came in he apologised profusely but I was in no mood for it and that was the last time I saw him.

And that's exactly why any sane person would find another dentist

I'm the customer and I'll pay whoever offers the best service

I swear to god I could slap you silly boy - if you'd have booked an appointment at the dental hospital, you would have had your treatment by now.

glad you're sorted but you need to have regular check ups with a scale and polish

took me ages to find a dentist I was comfortable with as I hate them with a passion but I've now been with my one since 1995 and I even trusted him to extract my wisdom tooth  that was a biggie for me

Sorry if this has been covered but ... which did you have out?

Have you considered implants to replace them.

My friend fell onto his mouth whilst drunk and smashed his teeth badly. Most at the front are loose and starting to blacken.

He's went through agony and said if he could he'd have the lot out and replaced by implants.
