ok have you tried mind maps?
I normally stress like a mad person but this year I'm staying calm (its my 3rd year so I really need to do well) so I've made loads of notes on my lecture notes and extra reading and then read through them and from memory made a mind map. Its really helpful for proving what you do know.
Is your test essay based, multiple choice or short answer?

For me the only way I could revise and actually absorb anything (rather than autopilot reading.... I'd read it... but not process it)... was to write/copy it out.   I wrote reams & reams of notes.

Then at the end of each bit... I would find some way of testing what I knew.

The other really good way of testing what you do and do not know is to try to explain it to someone.   It doesn't have to be a real someone....  I used to try to explain the respiratory chain to my daughter who was then aged 2, in her highchair.

My daughter now uses this method herself... in her room... to an imaginary someone, she does it out loud, I think you have to.

Is very effective at highlighting stuff you need to look over again

Can't really add much more to the others advice Chicken (it's 26 years since I last did any revision), but I found breaking down information into bullet points helped, drinking plenty of water and eating something like a banana gives energy.  Try not to spend all day revising, break it down into set periods of revision and never revise before going to bed.  I used to find music helped me to revise as well, in fact I can't hear Duran Duran's Rio album without thinking of school/college revision - that's how long ago it was!!  Try and stay calm as you go into your exam and take deep breaths, lavender oil on a hankie/tissue can also be calming.

Good luck, fingers crossed for you xx

Hi Trix  I hate mind maps... I know they work for some peeps... I just find doing the map a head hurty! I like reading other peoples mind maps though.
Hi Ditty
Mind maps are weird, I think you have to like the process to be able to use them. I just have to keep writing my notes again and again so I end up with so many copies of them before finally thinking lets prove what I know.
I also like the teaching someone thing- when I did GCSEs I taught my mum, this year is the first year I've done it again, talking to myself, but I spent this morning with my housemate doing past exams questions and we seem to have sorted quite a few things out.
Revision is stupid

That was the way I did it Ditty, I seemed to retain info so much better if I had written it down.

Chicken, there's lots of good advice in this thread, so I'm sending you a big hug and always remember, you can only do your best.

Ooh I hated exams too.  Best advice I can give is not to panic. It's just an exam, and if it's your first year it probably won't count a great deal towards your final grade anyway. Don't revise anything on Tuesday morning or you'll just end up forgetting all the revision you've done beforehand. Good luck anyway, I'm sure you'll be fine. What are you studying?

This won't be any use to you now chicken but may come in handy in the next few years - do you have a dictaphone?  I used to speak the important notes onto my dictaphone and pace around listening to it and repeating at the same time.

I currently doing this for my biology exam on Thursday   it does work   I pace around and try to pre-empt the dictaphone so that I know the most important bits have gone into my nogging
