I watched the BBC television serial "Stranger on the Shore" when it was first shown starting on 24 September 1961. The BBC decided to use Acker Bilk's "Jenny" as the theme for it and that is the one thing which I remember from that serial. "Jenny" was renamed as "Stranger in the Shore".

I can also remember watching "stranger!"

but my favourite was Midnight in Moscow! Years later when we were in the habit of listening to Radio Moscow, just for a laugh, ha ha, they had it as a sign off piece. This led me to wonder whether the tune was traditionally Russian or whether they liked Mr Bilk. Those crazy Russian cats loved their trad Jazz.

I was at a school reunion last w/e and one of the girls was talking about "senior moments" I seem to have had several in the last few days!

Omg I thought I was the only one likely to have watched that El Loro ....about an exchange student ....just thinking about brings back happy childhood memories . ..and as my dad played clarinet the tune has a special place in my heart .

I knew it was used as theme music, but I'd forgotten it was originally called "Jenny". It was named after his daughter, wasn't it?

Not the only thing Acker Bilk's called it, though. I was watching an old interview with him this evening, and he admitted that after 50 years he could get a bit fed up of the number and sometimes referred to it as "Strangler on the Floor"...

I ment to post earlier that years ago I had the pleasure of seeing him perform live alongside Humphrey Lyttelton. Both sadly missed...
