I need some help ....

I am at a crossroads in my life...
Im in my early 40s , and I need to get into a new career ....
I was a Gas fitter before but theres not the work there now Frowner ,
I have been told I can retrain in a new career and have it all paid for ...
So do I go retrain too degree standard in a new career or just go into a new job ...

I have thought long and hard about alsorts but Im at a lose to think of a new profession to do ...
Any ideas ..????
I have discounted blue collar /manual skilled jobs like plasterers /sparks /builder etc as they are most effected nowadays too Frowner
I did fancy being a chef ...but talked to a bloke at my club today who says its a rubbish job for low money ...

I like the idea of doing something like they did on The Apprentice....selling ,but never done that ..
maybe shopwork or market stall work ..???

any ideas would be helpful thanks ..Wink

You'd be a great salesman mate.
The car game would suit you but it's a bit dodgy at the moment.
I think in your position you'd be better having a set wage rather than a commission based wage anyway. Just that it's more secure.

Is this training for any job at all?

Of course I know your perfect job...Gynacologist lol.
Seriously I don't know what I want to do career wise, I just plod along. Best of luck though. Thumbs Up

If you think you are good enough at gas boilers and stuff why not train to be a teacher of it. It's all set out for you so all you need is patience and able to figure out how to bring the best out of people.
Re-reading this it sounds like I'm telling you off but I'm not, I just can't be bothered re-writing it lol.
I hope you can think of something to do. Don't think of it as a make money job though, just something you enjoy doing.
That was something my parents told me but at the same time pressured the f*** out of me to go college and Uni.
Kev
Sadly, the choice just isn't there. You are best looking at recruitment sites and seeing what jobs are available rather than chosing a profession and finding there are no vacancies.

I made the mistake of always training for specific jobs and then there being no jobs available or I decide it's not for me.

Keep your options open, apply for anything that pays half decent and you think you may enjoy.

Good luck x

How about driving instructor? Not with that "Red" place though – heard stuff about them not living up to expectations.

Or, how about being an undertaker? My brother became one a couple of years ago and he really, sounds awful but for want of a better word, loves it. No 2 days the same. Of course you have to have an empathy with people and I think you do Mike.

Red seem to be advertising quite a lot on TV...I always think when a company advertises a bit too much then the product/service might not be great. Just like the Spaniard who is trying to flog those Golf resort apartments. Disappointed
