We are not that expensive And everyone is treated with warm smiles and great hospitality. In truth everyone knows what to expect in the summer holidays. And we all understand and feel quite sorry for people, especially the kids. Nobody wants to go on holiday and either have bad weather or unhappy kids because they are bored.
But if I am 100% honest. If possible, it's definitely better to come to Devon and Cornwall during the OFF season. By that I mean, out of the school holidays. Usually anytime up to Easter. Then straight after easter right up to the summer holidays. Then after the holidays up till about October when we always have great weather. It's just easier when it's slightly less crowded and you can really enjoy things more without it being really really busy.

It's a lovely little village, but boy is it "local" and extremely rural. But absolutely stunning, and right next to my local golf course as well.

My parents took us there many years ago, a couple of times, well near there, a place called Wisemans Bridge, by Saundersfoot.
We used to go to Tenby and take the boat over to Caldey Island where the monks lived, best plain chocolate I ever tasted came from them monks!

seems to me like langster tried a bit of reverse psychology on us.
make us bite and then advertising their own pub and on top of that telling us to come off season when biz is low.
tourist places are suffering everywhere doncha know

Oh Mad4cavs, we used to walk across the pebbly beach when the tide was out, over to Amroth a lovely little place!

I've had some lovely hols in Devon... tis beautiful there!
There is a possiblity we may move down there next year (somewhere commutable to Exeter)... I suspect I'll slate the tourists then too!
No no no don't do that. We used to be tourists and we fell in love with it and moved 9 years ago, I always remember when I'm stuck behind a stream of traffic with caravans and all sorts in it that I was once a tourist too. Its so beautiful how could I not want to share it?
I know... but being behind a caravan... how can anyone smile through that!??
Have had some lovely hols in Woolacombe (?sp) and around there though!
How grim is it out of season? Is it like seaside towns.... I have family in Bridlington... and winters can be... harsh!
That's where I grew up Ditty!!!!! I probably served you food/pints/etc many a time!!

I think when I said cross breeds I should have said in breeds as well. I found them a strange lot and wow could they moan.
You've heard of Chudleigh then..

Yeah Ilfracoombe is beautiful. As is Clovelly. Agh, as is most of Devon, Cornwall and Somerset and Dorset. But so is most of the UK. There are beautiful places everywhere and no matter where you are, it's not that far to get away to somewhere pretty or peaceful. We could all be so much worse off and could be living in Iraq or Afghanistan or Darfur.
You obv haven't been to 'filth and gloom' for a while!! It's full of smackheads now I'm afraid. Gone downhill over the last few years.

Its a shame those big hotels that are empty and derelict, I would imagine it was a booming resort at one time.
We visited in May and some of the character's there looked abit dubious, sitting on the bit of a beach, with cans of beer, letting their dogs foul on the beach.

There's no way they're going to let us find out what goes on behind those hedges.

It is a real shame pigeonpie. I went to school in Ilfracombe and my Dad still teaches there. and it did really used to be a lovely place but unfortunately has just deteriorated. A lot of places in N Devon are suffering as old hotels are being bought up by private developers and sold as luxury holiday apartments to 2nd homeowners so the local population has been driven away. They are doing a lot to try and restore Ilfracombe to it's former glory but I'm afraid it's going to take a while. I'm glad your brother likes it tho, It does have it's good points and the local area is beautiful coastline.

I would recommend HillHead Caravan park. Great location and has excellent facillities like a swimming pool etc, easy to get to Paignton for the Zoo and the Quay West water slide park. Also all beaches are within a 20 min drive and you are right next to Dartmouth/Kingswear for the river trips and steam trains. Also it's slap bang in the middle of all the National Trust footpaths and right on the one the consider to be the best in the country. Perfect!

Please when you come could you remember to pack your brain and not leave it at home. I never have any trouble when I go on holiday. I spend time working out currency values and conversions, where to go, directions, things to do etc. So why when you come down a motorway do you all leave your brain at home?
Secondly, most of the A roads around here are all 60MPH!!!! Obviously unless stated as 40, or sometimes 30. Please realise that this means that you should drive on them at around 50-60MPH AND NOT BLOODY 25!!! When you look in your rearview mirror and see a line of traffic over a mile long behind YES IT IS YOU HOLDING THEM UP!!! And believe it or not most of us have work to get to and things to do, and unlike you we don't want to drive at less than half the bloody speed limit admiring the rear end of your shitty car!
Thirdly! You have been DUPED! Seriously! Although the Euro has gained strength against the pound, as has the Dollar, believe it or not, you still get much better value if you go abroad. It is BLOODY EXPENSIVE DOWN HERE! You are paying upwards of ÂĢ800 a week for accomodation and YES IT DOES COST ÂĢ3.80 a pint in my pub! I don't care if it's cheaper where you come from, if you don't like it please go back home and moan about it there (which you will inevitably do anyway) And yes our cheapest main course is ÂĢ9.00 and the most expensive ÂĢ25.00 (Lobster) If you want cheaper go to a Witherspoons and get a microwave meal for ÂĢ5.
Also, when it is raining there is not much for the kids to do. With the introduction of the internet I would strongly advise you to research where you are visiting and find out how much things cost and what there is to do for the kids. It's not MY FAULT you have no imagination and have to use theme parks and such to keep your own kids amused.
It's also NOT MY FAULT THE WEATHER IS BAD!!!! Do I look like Michael fookin Fish? Eh?
Also YOUR SAT NAV (TWAT NAV) is only a guide and should not be relied upon 100%. If you see a lane that you don't think your car can fit through, but your twat nav says it's the right way. Please get out the car and check first, don't just drive down the lane and then complain when you get stuck and trash your new car.
So to sum it all up, you really want to save yourself a lot of trouble next year and just book to go abroad anyway. It will work out cheaper, and if you are just going to go on holiday to moan about something, at least abroad the locals won't understand what you are saying.
Rant over
Can I just add to that: When you drive on one of many Devon's tiny roads, please don't try to preserve your paintwork by driving in the middle and expecting us yockels to make way for you.

Yeah, it can be like that at times
But Paignton Zoo has two new additions, two beautiful ickle tiger cubs. They are gorgeous
You also have Living Coasts over in Torquay, which is where all the penguins from paignton zoo went. And it has seals and dolphins etc. And Plymouth Aquarium is amazing as well, especially the sharks
I wonder how many of you I have met before? I used to skipper the river boats from Dartmouth to Totnes, and for the one hour cruises, and private parties etc. Did it for 8 years, and always used to do the commentary's as well. Lovely job in the summer, just a shame the company is run by tossers and they pay such low wages. It was only the tips in the summer that made it worthwhile.

It was Devon's answer to Las Vegas last time I went
I've also heard they've demolished Princesshay in Exeter and made a glass-topped shopping centre, is this correct? I lived in Princesshay for 3 years. I used to like it when the local students would sneak out at night and paint the BlueBoy statue pink
Oh and the monthly rave in Bow - does that still happen?

the tigers were hiding went to living coasts (and Bygones) and would visit again although we didn't see any dolphins, went on a river cruise and the wit of the captain was brill
I've only been to Devon once, spent a holiday in St.Marychurch, near Oddicombe beach, loved the railway down the cliffs.Went to the usual touristy things too,Kent's Caverns, trip to the river Dart, the moors. etc.Mind you this was about twenty years ago before the pubs opened all day etc.
