I think when I said cross breeds I should have said in breeds as well. I found them a strange lot and wow could they moan.

Hubby's family have been in Devon for hundreds of years. He's not a cross-breed at all. Probably the only person I know who has no invador's blood in his veins. Bit o' Welsh, maybe.

Have been going to North Devon for thirty odd years, love the place and the people, Hug most of whom are quite glad to see us, especially when we go in October when they are getting over a slow and quiet summer. I'm scared of flying so is my daughter, so I won't be going abroad. Wink

Ooh tell me where you go! We live in the tiniest little prettiest village right on the coast.

Normally, Mortehoe/Putsborough, and combesgate beach, I intend to have my ashes taken there when I've popped my clogs, that's how Much I love it. Hug
Normally try to get down two or three times a year, love it in any weather! wavey

Someone after my own heart Valentine This is my area! We used to holiday in Clifton Court at Putsborough for many years. Like you we used to try to get down at least twice a year, now we are lucky enough to live here! We're a little further down the coast now, near Combe Martin.

Frowner That's a shame, although it's worth checking the local job centres. There are literally loads of jobs around at the moment for skilled and trained people. And of course seasonal jobs for students etc. And it's a great place for starting up your own business, if you find the right niche market.

Frowner Newton Abbot Frowner

Mind you, it's still very pretty just very busy. I was born in Brixham and lived there for 20 years, moved to Dartmouth for 12 and now am over in Kingswear.

Most people call Totnes Woodstock because it literally is like a permanent festival. The old Elizibethan market, the massive amount of organic food and clothing shops, home made jewellry stores etc. The fact everyone usually votes for the Green party, the abundance of ** ahem ** Rastafarian Old Holborn ** that can be found there. And the fact it is so chilled out and peaceful. And also most like it because everyone always boycotts the arrival of larger commercial stores such as Tesco etc. They do want to keep everything local and not be invaded by massive superstores and things. It's lovely, and refreshing when so much of Devon, especially Torquay has been ruined by the out of town shops and supermarkets. It leaves the towns dead Frowner I think that's the same in most places though.

Aww I do sympathise. I was longing to move down here and even asked my hubby whether he could get a transfer (he was a postman) but he didn't think he would get one. We had to wait until he retired.

Well, it's my dream to move down there eventually, so we save, and when my youngest finishes high school(she starts yr 8 september), we'll be seriously making some decisions. Nod

Yeah Ilfracoombe is beautiful. As is Clovelly. Agh, as is most of Devon, Cornwall and Somerset and Dorset. But so is most of the UK. There are beautiful places everywhere and no matter where you are, it's not that far to get away to somewhere pretty or peaceful. Nod We could all be so much worse off and could be living in Iraq or Afghanistan or Darfur. Eeker

Lol, it's one of those catch 22s innit! Tourism brings money to the local economy but also changes the local way of life to some extent.

I went to a wedding on Saturday that was in a church which is part of a very famous heritage site in Yorkshire. It's in the centre of a small town and is very olde worlde, tiny streets and cobbles and the like.

So when the photographer was trying to do the 'coming out the church throwing confetti' shots there were Japanese tourists asking the groomsmen, bridesmaids and eventually the bride and groom if they could pose for their own pictures with them.

Luckily everyone was in very good humour and complied. Delayed the start of the reception though as it took blimmin ages!
