I agree, this is a public forum after all. Good points.
very worthy of the Code of Conduct Lainy M. Nice to see you wavey

Hi, hey why dont you devise a proper code of conduct when you have received a few more ideas. It could be used as a 'sticky' permanently, like a erm 'OUR COMMUNITY CODE OF CONDUCT' sort of thing.

I like that idea Lainy, I really do. It would be unifying for us FMs in our new house! Nod

It might take some doing Triggers but I reckon that the majority would go for it, however I dont think it should be as strict as C4 as Trollop said, but we dont want trolls in our new house F'ing off every other word.

I just wanted us to think about how we are with each other on here. I am not advocating constraints on any of my fellow FMs. Smiler

Well I think it's a great idea Triggs Clapping

Totally agree, sometimes the swearing is off putting. I think the moderation here is brilliant, and hope we can conduct ourselves with reasonable behavior without pushing the bounderies. Thumbs Up

I'll start:
I would like for everyone to be acknowledged by the OP if they have taken time to reply to their threads. Even if you don't know the FM, a little smiley to say their participation has been recognised is a nice gesture.

Anyone have anything to add? Smiler

Nice thought, but impossible unless you sit glued to the forum 24/7

It is obvious within 5 minutes sometimes that your post is being ignored. When the OP cartwheels over a reply to answer another. I do agree that it is probably impossible to acknowledge everyone but we can try. Nod

Sorry, I don't agree. I don't acknowledge everyone who replies to a thread, not because I'm ignoring them, but usually because I have nothing to add. Can't see the point of posting a smiley just for the sake of it either...

Can't understand why people get their knickers in a twist about it really Confused

I just feel you wouldn't ignore people in a verbal conversation. If you have nothing to add at least you could nod. Perhaps a little smiley could be the equivalent of a forum nod. I just think it promotes camaraderie and welcomes new people to get involved. That's all. Thanks for your input though. wavey

I like this thread and I do think we have to think this through. It isn't nice when you feel you are being ignored and although it might not always be practical (when a thread moves very quickly for instance) the idea is very good in principle. Whether a forum member is one of your best mates or you have never spoken to them before, we are all members of a community. We came over here in one 'job lot' and it would be nice to continue that 'family' feeling.

Hi Heatseek wavey I am not advocating stronger moderation. I like the more "relaxed fit" in this forum. I just wanted to promote a more inclusive vibe for all.

Whilst this may be good in theory... some people have a better ability (or more twisted minds) to come up with the truly bizarre to relate to anything.

Innuendo is not something everyone can do. It is not something everyone can understand.

To moderate 'by' innuendo is completely daft imo.

It all comes down to personal interpretations of what is ott. And that is so vastly different between personality groups and even individual personalities.

There is no easy answer to this one or it would have been the model for all forums since day dot.

Thumbs Up Sounds about right to me.

If you have problems with the OP or with anyone else in the thread and all you are going to do is antagonise or swear at someone within that thread... 'leave the thread'!

Don't participate in it just so you can 'get one over' or 'antagonise' a thread.

If you don't like it, leave it. Plain and simple.

No one forces you to post.

Very true. And I try, I really do try, to put that into practice. But, I'm afraid I don't always succeed.

I have very little patience with any sign of hidden agendas behind posts. And I have a zero tolerance for persistent BS, the like of which I see time and time again from certain parties.

This can only mean one of 2 things - either I get my jollies from being a trouble-maker, or I really am beginning to outgrow Forum life..........

I think "hidden agendas" are one of the worst problems. It is what tainted BBGF in the latter stages for me and I would like this to be a better place for the lack of it.

Is it, Triggs? Eeker Seriously, I'm not fishing for compliments. I'm surprised to see that.

After last night, I'm sure I'm being lumped in with all the "troublesome" FMs lots of mealy- mouthed people are discussing on this thread.

Problem with me is that I can't pretend to be anything other than what I am. And I'm the first to admit I rapidly lose patience with certain things & say exactly what I feel.

Still, I'm Italian.....impatient rants come with th territory, I guess Blush Laugh

'Hidden agendas' are not a good enough reason for any sort of retaliation of any kind.

A 'hidden agenda' is a percieved thing, not actuality and not always based on truth, but a persons perception of the truth.. Just like understanding innuendo or anything else, it is all relative.

Again, if you 'think' you see something you don't like, do not create a problem by bringing it up.

Other people might be quite happy to take part in a thread no matter what the situation is between 'others'.

And why not Confused If I see something I don't like I surely have the right to say so. Maybe to make other people more aware of what might be going on, and let them make their minds up about how they perceive the situation.

Frankly I'm seeing something I don't like much here too, Rafe. And that's a very preachy tone to a lot of your posts. Please don't presume too much.

There is a very preachy tone to my posts. I will agree with you 100%.

I would like to see a place where we either get along, or do not speak to the person we do not get along with.

That is my prerogative and my aim. I am not out to harm anyone but at the same time I do not like seeing others upset or hurt by what I see as pointless antagonisation.

But then, that too is bias towards 'my' perception Wink

As to why not, simply because it causes trouble.

Hi Scotty! wavey Yes I know, and have said that it is impossible to answer everyone, that is true. I was talking more about the obvious cases. We can all feel invisible but the antidote to that is a wee acknowledgement when you have actually taken the time to contribute to a thread.

Yeah I agree.
And one of the problems on gbbf was that the forum moves so fast that if you started a thread in the evening and went out,you could never find it later(presuming it hadnt been deleted!)

I have no problem with my posts being 'overlooked' - in fact sometimes it is absolutely necessary that they are.

I have no problem with the swears, although I prefer the humorous swears, which, if possible, would be spelt in an interesting manner, "You frupping grunt" etc.

I would find it almost impossible to post without innuendo. In fact, I have been under the doctor with this problem, for many years. Glance
