The pic been up all day, only a few said anything...now that  Lori has said she has removed it...a bus has arrived ????????? Sorry not being rude but really ....
To be fair Skylark, the forum has been dead all day and has only just really woken up. Plus a lot of us are watching the programme so would migrate to this thread.

I posted first thing in the thread... saw the pic, thought it was in very bad taste, but didn't come back into the thread until I saw Lori's name as last poster.....

In answer to the OP I'd have to say that shocking as 911 was around the world it was always going to have an immense impact in the US for one very particular reason - it's the one and only time the US mainland has been subject to a successful attack from outside forces.

In Europe we've had plenty of experience in that field - from 1066 and before to the Blitz. My father was 4 in 1940 and living in Gloucester - even now at 74 his stomach curls in fear when he hears an air raid siren on TV. So even though we may not have experienced anything personally it's very much in our psyche that we have been vulnerable in the past. The US never had that until 2001. For that reason as much as anything - and in this media centric world - I think 911 is always going to be replayed and replayed on TV because it was such a big thing for the US. It taught them they were not safe in their own beds.

I mean the picture that was put up earlier, laughing in the face of one tragedy yet asking for acceptance and exposure to other tragedies (that arose off the back of said laughed at tragedy). I've also seen stuff elsewhere too. It's bollocks.
It is very hard to express ones opinion on a forum such as this, long posts, some people dont read. Two wrongs certainly dont make a right, i made a remark about London, and i live 5oo miles away. I could make a huge long post about all the tragedies because of war, my point was , which i should have said, but was shocked at the pic, was that innocent people died.they werent in the war, as such, just ordinary people going about their daily business. It is not hypocracy to say , well its happened on my doorstep so its more real. This is a world wide "problem" it affects each and every one of us

That seems a bit of a weird thing to say. Those lives are so many lives apart that it matters more than a jot.
Skylark remarked that she lived in Scotland but commented on the London bombings. I observed this as I personally do not think it's a situation that's only open to comment dependent on geographical status. What's weird?

Karma, did i question you're post? No. I have no truck with you. On you're bike.
WTF?!  You quoted me and remarked on it, and I replied, without any antagonism either consciously or sub-consciously may I add. Or is the fact I am stone cold sober impairing my vision? Seems it's you who's trying to start something that doesn't need to be started.

I don't have a truck either. Or a bike. And it's 'your' by the way.

I feel happier posting the following today....... I think most of us agree that it was an horrific act carried out by deluded fanatics and brainwashed suicide chumps. Meanwhile my parent's generation are remembering possibly their last :big: anniversary of the Battle of Britain, as well as the Blitz, and the children evacuation. Quite interesting therefore to see people in the other place posting stars n stripes n stuff. I wonder if this is a continuance of the americanisation of our good selves?

I don't think anyone has forgotten this, I know I certainly haven't.  It goes without saying that the same sentiments go out to those who were killed then, their families and the brave heroes who survived.

Good post Mister J I've picked up on this bit cos I used an image yesterday to mark 9/11. My reasons were because it is an event I saw unfold in front of my eyes (via the telly), it was horrific to watch and it's something I don't think I'll ever forget as long as I live. It still makes me feel extremely sad thinking about it and when the annual anniversary comes around it makes me take stock of my own life and what's going on and what I should be thankful for. Re the Battle of Britain the Blitz...etc, I don't know much about it, partly cos I didn't bother with school (only the lessons I was interested in) and partly cos of my own ignorance at not educating myself about the country I live in, which is a bit shite really.
