Good morning everyone

Cloudy start here, forecast to become sunny, the weather is forecast to turn wet from tomorrow, Sunday could be a wash out. A return to what seems to be a long term change to the weather in this country with the wetter conditions now in the south rather than the north.

I hope everyone has a good day

I don't like the sound of that El....and I think there may be grumble noises coming from the local touristy folk if it's really the case

Leckhampton Hill and the Charlton Kings Common on the outskirts of Cheltenham may be declared a National Nature Reserve in order to protect its Jurassic rocks:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gl37xjjl0o
The pillar seen in the photo is known as the Devil's Chimney but is actually as a result of quarrying on the side of Leckhampton Hill. The Georgian buildings in Cheltenham were built from stones from the quarries.

There uses to be a path half way up the slope where the Devil's Chimney is. Many years ago my parents, I and my brother decided to walk along that path. However we found that we couldn't get any further as the path had eroded. So we decided to scramble down the slope to the bottom. Suddenly my mother shouted to me to stop as I was heading towards a nest of baby adders and their protective mother. I think my mother was more scared than I was.
I think that the pathway would have completely eroded away by now.

What a stunning view!
It's a great idea to protect it by declaring it a NNR
However, the local authorities will need to put certain things in place to accomodate the hundreds/thousands of new visitors that that title will possibly attract each year ...dedicated footpaths etc

Latest update is that over 40mm of rain has fallen here in the last 3 hours so exceeding the top level shown by the Met Office in today's warning of 40mm possibly in a few locations.
Not surprisingly some roads are closed due to flooding. The advice locally this evening is only go out if essential,

The thunderstorm system may be moving away to the west but I can still hear rumbles of thunder - just heard a loud one.

The Environment Agency are in the process of reviewing the risk for flooding and coastal erosion. A national assessment is due to be published in December.
In early 2025 they intend to update their  ‘Risk of flooding from rivers and sea’ and ‘Risk of flooding from surface water’ data on ‘Check your long term flood risk’ and available on data.gov.uk
That will be followed  by an update on coastal erosion

I will need to keep an eye out for this as the flood plain area is getting closer and closer to where I live,

Slim, little new of interest on the Talking Pictures tv channel during the coming week. Tomorrow evening at 21.05 is the first half of the IRV 1997 adaptation of "Rebecca" and the second half on Tuesday at 21.10. Charles Dance as Maxim de Winter (played by Laurence Olivier in the Hitchcock film), Emilia Fox as the second Mrs de Winter (Joan Fontaine) and Diana Rigg as Mrs Danvers (Judith Anderson).

There's a 1948 comedy called "The Return of October" on Friday afternoon. Although the characters in it are probably likeable, it's unlikely that you would want to watch it as it's a weird storyline involving horseracing.

Amber warning for rain issued by the Met Office for tomorrow. It'a a large area and the Met Office do say that it's uncertain as to which parts will get the worst of the rain.
Telford, Stoke on Trent, Sheffield, Hull mark the top of the area, Gloucester, Northampton, Peterborough and Boston mark the bottom of the area.

Thanks El

I'd like to watch the adaptation of 'Rebecca', but will have to record
