A number of leading media websites are currently not working, including the Guardian, Financial Times, Independent and the New York Times.
The UK government website - gov.uk - is also down - with all of their services out of action
Affected websites displayed the message: "Error 503 Service Unavailable".
Early reports have suggested it could be related to Fastly, a cloud computing provider, which underpins a lot of major websites.

Fastly say it wasn't.
In a statement, it said: "We identified a service configuration that triggered disruption across our POPs (points of presence) globally and have disabled that configuration."
So their POPS went pop

As Baz says, it could be. The problem started at about 11 am. One of the many sites which was affected was Shopify, another was Paypal. So if the owner uses either then that would be the reason.
Yesterday's chaos was caused by one of Fastly's customers changing their settings. It exposed a bug in Fastly's software update issued to its customers in May.
