BBSPY Twitter saying,

Important to stress that nothing has been confirmed by Channel 5 yet, but it is looking more likely by the day that the end is nigh. The miracle that was required this series hasn't happened

And then

Tomorrow's Daily Star front page could be a contract renegotiation tactic - someone at C5 could have leaked the story to scare Endemol in to taking a price cut

And then,

I do think a renewal is still possible - Endemol will fight to keep its biggest show on air and staff in work, and C5 probably doesn't want to lose its most publicity-grabbing show (even if ratings have slipped)

Saint

All sources are basing this on The Daily Star story

The contract was up this year anyway and Ch5 have not renewed (yet)

No comment from Ch5

This has happened before right at the 11th hour

When Ch4 axed B.B., I was gutted.

If Ch5 axes it, I won’t be particularly bothered - as it has long ceased to B.B. as we knew it.

You take that back !!!!

We ARE Big Brother and I live for it like the sad person I am

The Official comment from Channel 5 is,

I think this is all good publicity as every newspaper and everyone is talking about it. Hmmmmm

This from BBSPY,

Here is the Daily Star's full article on Big Brother supposedly being axed - it actually says the show is "on the verge" of cancellation and a final decision hasn't been made yet…

HOLD THE PRESS !!!

UPDATE !!!

Andy Halls (TV editor at The Sun) says,

Endemol, who make Big Brother and , says today's Daily Star Sunday story that it's to be axed after 18 years is a "total flier" and not true.

Hardly surprising considering the mess they’ve made of a once great concept.

They should let me oversee things for a series. I reckon with some major tweaks I could make that once great show great again.

Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother are not being axed. Thank goodness as I love this season with Ann Widdicome Would highly recommend applying, had the time of my life there!

Considering they are looking for contestants for this years show it looks like the show will be on air for 2018 at least.

BUT

The thing to note is that the viewing figure are falling year after year, it will soon just be the contributors to this forum that are left.

2018 Celebrity Big Brother opened up with the least watched launch to a winter series. The figures dropped a third the following night losing 500,000 viewers, that's down 800,000 on 2016.

Double Eviction Night: The 9PM episode was seen by 1.5 million viewers, down 300,000 viewers on last week's first eviction. The second half from 10:30PM averaged fewer than a million viewers, down 200,000 on last Friday night.

C5 are a commercial station and rely on revenue from that, less viewers means less attractive advertisers paying less money. Also, they will be making less money from voting.

As Yogi quite rightly points out, this is not BB and has not been since it left C4.

Don't we get this argument every year though??

And 'if' Ch5 do drop it then someone else could pick it up .. just like Ch5 did when Ch4 dropped it

Yes, we do get this argument debate every year and by and large it holds true.

Another channel could pick it up, but would any of the major channels pick up a failing format?

A smaller channel may grab it, but it only them emphasises BB's slow decline. In an ideal world Channel 4 would pick it up, revive the format, bring back the elements that made it great and remove all the pampering to the lad/ladette segment of our community. Bring back the social experiment. But I'm just clutching at straws, it's not what it was and never will be and I think within a couple of years will be gone. Sometimes a show runs it's course. BB has.

Bubbles wouldn’t last 5 minutes in Big Brother these days.

Day 1: Bubbles is called to the diary room...

“Bubbles, Big Brother would like to remind you of the rules that were explained to you before you entered the house regarding unacceptable behaviour. Bubbles, despite numerous warning today, you’ve continued to break these rules on several occasions. As a result, Big Brother is left with no choice but to remove you from the Big Brother house. The door to your right is now open.”

CHANNEL 5 bosses have denied claims they're axing Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother — saying the show's contracts will probably be extended when they run out later this year.

A newspaper yesterday reported Big Brother, presented by Emma Willis, will be “consigned to the dustbin for good".

Ann Widecombe is indeed a professional disapprover and a reality show hack.

BBSPY has reported,

C5 boss Ben Frow admitted: “I would be much happier with a channel that did not have Big Brother on it.”

A source added: “Big Brother is a very expensive format for Channel 5 and it’s getting to the point where it just isn’t worth the hefty price tag. There is still time for the bosses at Channel 5 to change their mind, but it is not looking likely.”

The SUN reported,

“It’s far too early to suggest it’s the end of Big Brother, quite the opposite, so fans can relax. An extension of the deal is likely, it’s just that those conversations haven’t happened yet.”

Meanwhile, the story spread across the pond. US entertainment industry blog Deadline also indicates the Star’s story is untrue, with both parties still in talks.

Since 2014, Channel 5 has been owned by Viacom, the American media giant behind brands such as MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and Paramount
