Very sad news ....he was such a big part of so many kids childhoods RIP
Sad news indeed Of the three best known of the early Blue Peter presenters, with Christopher Trace dying many years ago and now John Noakes, that just leaves Valerie Singleton with us. (Leila Williams is another early presenter who is still alive but I don't remember her and Peter Purves had only just joined when I left school). I do remember the first time Valerie Singleton appeared on Blue Peter (3 September 1962). It was her very first time appearing on television and it was a bit obvious that she was rather nervous (that quickly went and she was fine from then on).
I'd never watched this before, John Noakes tackling the 'button boy' climb on HMS Ganges. A fine tribute to a wonderfully warm-hearted man, sadly missed. Valerie Singleton says of him that everything he did was to show the children at home, not to make a reputation by showing off but because it was the best way to tell the stories to the young viewers.
I thought I had already posted in here.
John, Val and Peter were the BP presenters of my childhood and I loved John's enthusiasm and his relationship with Shep.
RIP John.
