So there's a trilogy of books that are sweeping the nation, the first being "50 shades of grey" and it's sold out all over the place apparently.
The thing is, it's being classed as porn for women!

Now I like a good romance, but am led to believe these books go waaaay beyond romance.

Opinions please..
Anyone read them? Are they inappropriate for the general market, or has the hype been exaggerated?

I haven't read them, and have only just heard about them

It was ÂĢ2.70 on Amazon.  I downloaded it to my kindle and flicked through to see what all the fuss was about.   Thank god I didn't waste more than ÂĢ2.70 - it's not even well written smut from what I saw.    I did read an article though that said hardware shops are reporting huge increases in sales of rope, so that'll give you an idea of the content.

(Just been out for our 'llowance)

One of Mrs Jer's book club members had read it and decided it was badly written and that she could have done better. One was reading it because she thought it was her duty to do so and was surprised at the content. The majority being ladies of a certain age couldn't see what the fuss was about although I understand it developed into a discussion about whether women enjoyed pornography as much as men do. Do women need that sort of stimulation. Are they wired differently.

That old chestnuut.

I've heard it's basically Twilight fan fiction, where Edward and Bella actually shag (I guess this was before the fourth(?) book/film?) but with added BDSM.

I haven't read it on account of it being sparkly twihard 'mummy porn' as Jer put it

Doesn't matter whether you are buying them because they are a twilight fan fic or for titillation purposes - they are so bad on both levels. I can't believe these are so popular - badly written doesn't cover it! You can tell the author is a twilight fan - some whole sentences are directly from the twilight books. I am basing this on the few chapters I skim read before realising it wasn't going to get any better and there was no point putting myself through anymore of this tacky fluffy insipid rude version of a mills and boon. Maybe I've lived too much but the only thing I had the overwhelming desire to do after reading a rude bit was to go out the kettle on and have a cup of coffee Some people must have led very sheltered lives to be getting all turned on by these books

Well quite! Surely there are better places to get your fix of BDSM soft porn than poorly written fan fiction

I don't mind a bit of tat either Rexi (I loved the Twilight books!), I think the problem is that I read a review of these before I scanned through book and I just couldn't take it seriously.   The review said something like 'she shattered into a thousand pieces' so often it's a wonder she ever got herself together again.. and I read that sentence three times in the few minutes I was scanning through it

Warning...  blog written by a guy who read the book "so you don't have to" and his comments.    The language is dreadful, but if you're not easily offended and want a laugh.....     (was this that made me download the book - I may even read it properly one day)    If you don't like bad language and are offended by sexual sweary words - DO NOT CLICK THE LINK.

Oh - and it has spoilers so don't click if you don't want to know what happens

Oh joy! I've a treat in store, haven't I?!!

Rexi

I have read all three and they are not as pornographic or as brilliant as the hype makes out! The author obviously has no access to a thesaurus as all three are very repetitve and the storyline is shockingly bad!!! There are some  moments...the tampax one was my most  one!! Shan't be rushing to read them again, though Mr grey is a very memorable hero....and he's ginger!!!!!!

That reviewer really doesn't like EL James

"Once again, I find myself translating what she's written as an attempt to be romantic with what she's actually saying, which is not:

"I'm going to do something you don't like or want against your will."
"But it's against my will. You just said that."
"Not important. I already said I was going to do it, so that's what's happening."

THIS IS NOT OK, THIS IS SO NOT OK, WHY WHY WHY IS THIS HAPPENING OVER AND OVER AGAIN? WHY ARE SO MANY WOMEN READING THIS BOOK AND NOT NOTICING THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THIS?"

She certainly has a limited vocab and imagination!!!!

I'm staggered they are thinking of making the film.....it will be awful!!!!

I wonder if they'll use cheesy 70's porn music as the soundtrack.

I was once told about it
