Because I had a cup of take out coffee.

Now I have made the same trip for months, drinking my coffee pretty much everyday.

But this time the driver decided to refuse to allow me on the bus citing health and safety.

Now despite the fact I accepted his reason, I did challenge why no other drivers do this and I see many people each week eating and drinking and worse still people playing music or games on their mobile device, the bus drivers never challenging this despite the rules.

I was annoyed, but complied. Then complained.

We aren't allowed food or drink on our buses ....but people do  flout the rules

We have two bus companies Baz, First and Stagecoach. First seem to be stricter with Stagecoach allowing coffee on board as long as it has a top on, mine did. But I was trying to get onto a First bus.

I would prefer a complete ban on food and drink on all bus companies, therefore I would know where I stood and so does everyone else.

Very true ...I used to do it every day , many moons ago , but had forgotten how hot and claustrophobic it was until I went to London last year and ended up in the rush hour

A friend and I were refused entry to a bus because we had cans of paint, which we'd just bought from the nearby B&Q. We hid them away and boarded the next bus, but asked the driver if there was any company-rule against sealed tins of paint being on-board. He told us there wasn't, as did the driver of the next bus we caught.

I think some drivers just invent their own rules, probably because a passenger has spilled coffee/paint ect. on their bus before.
