I tend to be torn with movie awards ceremonies: I'm interested in the results, but usually can't be bothered watching the ceremony itself. (Perhaps significantly, I used to watch the ceremonies back in the days when I usually hadn't seen many of the films up for nomination.)

I finally managed to see "Trumbo" on Saturday", so of the "big" awards (Best Film, Best Director, and the 4 acting awards) the only BAFTA-nominated films I haven't seen are "The Lobster" (nominated for Outstanding British Film) and "Beasts of No Nation" (Idris Elba nominated for Best Supporting Actor).

As you've probably guessed, I wasn't watching tonight. However from going through the winners list, it looks like it mostly went as expected - at least among the "big" awards". The only one of those that surprised me was Kate Winslet winning Best Supporting Actress - she was good, but I was sure Alicia Vikander would win something. Further down the list, I was pleasantly surprised that "Wild Tales" won the Foreign Film award - it's a portmanteau film, and I thought that would count against it.

I would have loved "Shaun the Sheep" to have won Best Animated Film, but TBH "Inside Out" was a shoo-in (although it might be a different story at the Oscars, when it will be up against "Anomalisa", which isn't released here in the UK until March).
