I've never had a keebab nor been in a betting shop.  I think you can go through life Star Wars free and still have a very rich life!

I've seen them all. They're all ok, except the first of the prequels, which is awful.  For sheer impact, the 1977 original (now episode 4) is the best.  When I first saw it I thought it was absolutely amazing, but I was so young.  In its day, Star Wars totally blew that era's sci-fi away, with its special effects, production values and all action dog fights.

life goes on, your tastes change and certain aspects of those films annoy .  I'll wait till it comes out on Blu Ray but will definitely watch it.  To me it will just be another big budget action sci-fi.

I would rather watch the last installment of the Hunger Games, TBH.

Back in 1977 I read an article in a film magazine about this film which was going to be released in the UK in a few months. Although the lead actors were unknowns, the director had clearly made the film as a labour of love reminiscing about his childhood when he went to the cinema and saw things like Buck Rogers. He wanted to bring his childhood memories back to life so he made this film.
So when Star Wars was released, at that time it was an unknown film, and I went to see it with high expectations.
Sadly, I found it a disappointment and rather childish, with the lead actors coming across as rather immature and at times rather like spoilt brats.
The only saving grace was Alec Guinness who at least gave the film some dignity.

The film of course became a worldwide hit. The long term effect on Hollywood was not good though as its success resulted in more and more emphasis being devoted to special effects rather then story telling and good acting. I'm not the only person who thinks that - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/..._impact_of_Star_Wars

I think Syd, the only way to be sure is to actually watch it and then decide. You may find that you actually enjoy the whole SW universe and continue to follow it.

Alternatively you may find it stinks and never let it penetrate your consciousness again!

I saw the very first film in the series (or is it now the fourth) in the cinema and loved the experience, especially the opening scene (I will not spoil it just in case you do watch).

As the years went by I became less enamoured by the whole Star Wars universe and I actually find some of the acting in the earlier films a bit cringey, but not so at the time. I also find it a bit annoying that Lucas has tinkered with the films over the years producing 3689 slightly different version, all released to VHS, DVD and blu-ray in multiple editions!!

If it were me I would probably watch them and make your own mind up. Just like I will have to do with the Harry Potter films, LOTR and The Hobbit, seen non of them... yet.

Edit: Have you seen 2001: A Space Odyssey?

Was made much earlier than Star Wars and the visuals are quite stunning.

I have another irritant on my telebox right now, and it is the bliddy advert with football fans (mainly stupid men wearing silly scarfs) singing 'Ohdy odhy yo, odhy odhy yo'  continually, don't ask me what it is advertising, cos, I just want to scream before it has finished .....................

There I feel better now I have got that off my chest....

My dad took me to see the original film at the ABC cinema on Southbury Rd in Enfield – I loved itâ€Ķ but he kept nodding off!

I watched the first three instalments but I’m not sure I could watch them now. As for the second trilogy – I’ve not watched any of them and found the hype surrounding The Phantom Menace annoying at the time.
