Well have I?
And what was so good about them, apart from the overplayed over dramatic clips....
I preferred the Jetsons myself.

No i.m.o. Syd I thought they were overrated and a teensy bit boring...
I don't know why I posted this thread really, just a bit fed up of us looking to moon and space, when perhaps we should be concentrating on the Earth as it is today.......

What is the real thing?.........all lazer guns blazing?.....in space.......
Is this the final finale for the 'Throwaway' society, bored with Earth, lets look further afield...?
YES!!

Escapism
Okay
And sides.....I'd rather watch something like Star Wars than a daft 'love story'

I understand escapism and fantasy, but, I can't understand the fascination of leaving Earth to find other planets hoping to find.......IT.......
I've never had a keebab nor been in a betting shop. I think you can go through life Star Wars free and still have a very rich life!
I've seen them all. They're all ok, except the first of the prequels, which is awful. For sheer impact, the 1977 original (now episode 4) is the best. When I first saw it I thought it was absolutely amazing, but I was so young. In its day, Star Wars totally blew that era's sci-fi away, with its special effects, production values and all action dog fights.
life goes on, your tastes change and certain aspects of those films annoy . I'll wait till it comes out on Blu Ray but will definitely watch it. To me it will just be another big budget action sci-fi.
I would rather watch the last installment of the Hunger Games, TBH.
STAR WARS............peace on EARTH.........look to the STARS.....for WAR!
I don't know who Cainer is....
Off to bed, to look at the stars.......and make a wish.....xxx

You can look for the Millenium Falcon
Back in 1977 I read an article in a film magazine about this film which was going to be released in the UK in a few months. Although the lead actors were unknowns, the director had clearly made the film as a labour of love reminiscing about his childhood when he went to the cinema and saw things like Buck Rogers. He wanted to bring his childhood memories back to life so he made this film.
So when Star Wars was released, at that time it was an unknown film, and I went to see it with high expectations.
Sadly, I found it a disappointment and rather childish, with the lead actors coming across as rather immature and at times rather like spoilt brats.
The only saving grace was Alec Guinness who at least gave the film some dignity.
The film of course became a worldwide hit. The long term effect on Hollywood was not good though as its success resulted in more and more emphasis being devoted to special effects rather then story telling and good acting. I'm not the only person who thinks that - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/..._impact_of_Star_Wars
I thought number one and three, or four and six if you will, to be great fun. This new episode has great reviews so I may visit the cinema to see it also. I can now reveal that I have eaten kebabs and visited turf accountants on an industrial scale, so I know what I am talking about.
The thing is that "Star Wars" has had such a huge cultural impact over the decades that you've probably picked up a fair bit about it through osmosis anyway.
Here's a little experiment: Who is Luke Skywalker's father?
My manager has never seen "Star Wars" either, and he actually knew the answer!
I think Syd, the only way to be sure is to actually watch it and then decide. You may find that you actually enjoy the whole SW universe and continue to follow it.
Alternatively you may find it stinks and never let it penetrate your consciousness again!
I saw the very first film in the series (or is it now the fourth) in the cinema and loved the experience, especially the opening scene (I will not spoil it just in case you do watch).
As the years went by I became less enamoured by the whole Star Wars universe and I actually find some of the acting in the earlier films a bit cringey, but not so at the time. I also find it a bit annoying that Lucas has tinkered with the films over the years producing 3689 slightly different version, all released to VHS, DVD and blu-ray in multiple editions!!
If it were me I would probably watch them and make your own mind up. Just like I will have to do with the Harry Potter films, LOTR and The Hobbit, seen non of them... yet.
Edit: Have you seen 2001: A Space Odyssey?
Was made much earlier than Star Wars and the visuals are quite stunning.

Yes Lando Calrissien. That is all.

That was on the other night
I have another irritant on my telebox right now, and it is the bliddy advert with football fans (mainly stupid men wearing silly scarfs) singing 'Ohdy odhy yo, odhy odhy yo' continually, don't ask me what it is advertising, cos, I just want to scream before it has finished .....................
There I feel better now I have got that off my chest....
"I'm in the mood for moaning" (sung by me, not one of those Nolans who also get on my wick).....
Any Pre - Festive moaning from anyone else?
Watching 'The Good Life' now, and am feeling all is right with the world again......(Don't know how long it will last tho)
My dad took me to see the original film at the ABC cinema on Southbury Rd in Enfield â I loved itâĶ but he kept nodding off!
I watched the first three instalments but Iâm not sure I could watch them now. As for the second trilogy â Iâve not watched any of them and found the hype surrounding The Phantom Menace annoying at the time.
