My mobile has had 12 cold calls today !!
When I pick up there is a silent pause and then the call goes dead.
One was from 'On line securities' 
Several were 'unidentified'
When I've tried to call back its not been allowed

a lot of these calls are testing the number is still in use
if they get a response the number goes on an active list and then sold on and another bout of calls are made this time trying to sell you something
we are getting them but not answering them hoping our number goes on an inactive list 
Try a site called whocallsme.com From there you can know which to block

Don't block the no caller though. That might include stuff that you want to get through

I think there's a new scam out there. They're masking mobile numbers with landline numbers and they can't be traced. I'll come back later and post a bit more

Right ok...earlier tonight, I was in the kitchen cooking my tea, phone was off the cradle but I heard it ring *toddles in to the sitting room to just catch the last few words that I couldn't make out*
Ok, I thought...next port of call the answer machine...no lights flashing, nothing showing up 
Next I try the who calls me site, number not showing up there either (landline number)
I do a little more digging and find out people can buy a domain that covers and diverts and masks mobile numbers with a landline 
These people need to be stopped!!

I agree Sprout. There should be a law against people invading our home lives.
Ages ago we called the operator and we were given a number to a service called "Caller Privacy"
Within days our cold calls almost stopped.
This was ages ago though
My 13yr old just got a call saying they had heard she'd been in an accident that wasn't her fault
I used to be in tele-sales (double glazing) so i understand people are trying to earn a living but the sheer amount of pre recorded PPI and Insurance calls from over seas is ridiculous... I actually don't have my home phone plugged in any more.... and I never give anyone I don't actually know my mobile number unless it's emergency contact number for kids etc
It appears I am lucky because I have only had a handful of nuisance calls in the 18 months or so I have had this mobile 
In the other hand, I have at least 3 a day on my landline. Some as late as 8-30pm 
If I want something I will go out and pursue it or look online. I don't need some moron ring me up on the off chance
