In the late 1960s and 1970s, fear grips the city of San Francisco as a serial killer called Zodiac stalks its residents. Investigators (Mark Ruffalo, Anthony Edwards) and reporters (Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr.) become obsessed with learning the killer's identity and bringing him to justice. Meanwhile, Zodiac claims victim after victim and taunts the authorities with cryptic messages, cyphers and menacing phone calls.

There's been a few: "Dirty Harry" was loosely based on the Zodiac killings (the killer in that film calls himself "Scorpio").

I've never seen Dirty Harry.

I've got it in my head that I watched a film about this in the 90's.

I think I've seen about four or five different documentaries on this killer. It's intriguing and unsolved to date, although in a couple of the documentaries I've seen I'm sure evidence was put forward as to who the killer was...  if I remember I think one guy cracked part of the code.

They think some guy called Arthur Lee Allen did the murders...I've got an Audio book about the crime and it suggests maybe a guy from England (amongst other suspects) may have done it....but you are right, it's very intriguing.
