I was thinking something very similar Baz. They build these twists and shocks up, but ultimately they fail to deliver. They use them to try and generate interest in the format, but it's never going to work. It's like continually crying wolf, I think most of us have long given up listening to the cries not expecting too much.

For me, the best outcome would have been for 'Pie-Man/Boy' to take the Beemer and then see what happens. As you say there would be no prize fund and the TV facetime aside, the contestants all go in for cash - would they walk?

No, BB would just rewrite the script so that the could "earn" a new prize fund, problem solved.

Exactly my feeling EC .....I never watched before BB9 , but imagine the first time someone was put in a secret house was probably quite interesting , but apart from that .......

memorable twists for me are BB5 and the secret bedsit which resulted into the famous fight night - compelling viewing [ although it was took off air for a while ] as we had live feed 24/7 back in those days

BB5 again and the first secret eviction which was Chicken Stu ripped from a party and through the DR to a live crowd only 2 days before the final

I think the first time they split the prize fund was a bit of a *shocker*

all we get now are rehash's of original ideas

I agree with everyone. .

Altho last nights big twist was ridiculous.. bet the insurance for that car and a lad his age would be almost as much as the car.. in reality it was only worth the resale value... which drops exponentially the moment a brand new car leaves the showroom

I think the only true 'shock' Moment was BB1 when we saw Craig confront Nick about the 'cheating' and I don't think we knew what it was about beforehand just that someone got thrown out which was reported on the news. .ie no spoilers just that it was HUGE!!   I actually want to slap Emma every time she says BB has a huge twist for tonight's show.. it is always a massive damp squib

I really want to wean myself off BB completely but seem to be hanging on with my fingertips and torturing myself with the so called HL shows.. I have never met people like the ones that get chosen for BB nowadays [and hope never to meet people like that ever!] and the average age range is so low I may as well watch LF from a nursery.. it is so far from my dynamic now..  yet still I hang on with a bit of hope, and get disappointed every time

I agree with you all........came into BB on series 3 when laid up with a broken foot and was sat on the sofa for hours watching LF.......may I add both Alex behind the door and John talking through Hotel California as highlights

These days there doesn't seem to be any highlights and the contestants are all the same, thick as planks and desperate wannabes

Thing is, did anyone but Jack know that the prize fund would apparently evaporate? I wasn't paing that much attention!

Well there was some suspicion last night (and I was one of the people sharing it) that BB stuck in the "wipe out the prize fund" part of the twist to ensure that Jack didn't take the car.

One of the things that annoyed me was the way in which BB (and Rylan on BOTS) kept going on about Jack being faced with this great dilemma. It was not a dilemma - he was just offered a nice prize which came with a sting in the tail. He always had the opportunity to refuse, with no consequences whatsoever (which inevitably was what he did.   )

Pedantry aside, my problem with this "twist" was that it was a classic example of BB hyperbole. It was blindingly obvious from the start that a bloke who'd only been in the house for 3 days and had just been told he was favourite to win ÂĢ150,000 wasn't going to leave the house for a car he couldn't even drive. It was an absolute no-brainer: no drama or suspense whatsoever.

Emma said on BOTS that they'd prepared for any one of the HMs leaving on the night, but her group all assumed that none of them would agree to walk. The BB producers must have realized this as well (and indeed, there's the suspicion that was their intention, as mentioned further up).

So the question has to be: why on earth did they go ahead with it in the first place?

Eugene's Lair

I noticed this post on DS earlier and thought it quite interesting:

Incidently, my money is still on Big Brother re-enacting that launch night twist anyway... I'm sure that's part of the timebomb concept... Time rewinds, they all go through that first task again, everyone ends up with different results. I even think 'Showbiz!' will return.

Go back to launch night at some point and have a different outcome?

Cold Sweat
I think the very first fake eviction (Michelle bass and Emma I think) was good. It was something different, them going into a secret room and watching everything before heading back in there.

Nowadays they seem to do this every year and it's just shit. It's boring, repetitive and predictable, so predictable that it takes the remaining housemates about half an hour to guess what's happened.

I completely agree, I too can see this plot device being used again. The interesting thing will be now that they have had chance to settle down and start to like and dislike each other, the chances of someone actually taking the booty will increase.

Funnily enough I was thinking about the nudity angle today .....isn't it strange how they now allow all the swearing , crudity , and even so called sex ( simulated IMO ) , but they still wear their underclothes in the shower, bath etc .
