Never thought I would start a thread about salad dressing but here goes . . .

So I was in a 'restaurant' of sorts and had a salad with olives etc

AND a lovely salad dressing - it was some type of Balsamic thingy

When I asked exactly what it was they had no idea

Obviously they buy it in ready made

SO . . . what do you use?

I've bought some (and they're not cheap) and didn't like them

Advice please

Base of a home made salad dressing. .

Olive oil and vinegar of your choice..  1 part vinegar to 2/3 parts oil.. shake or whisk  and voila.. add anything you want to it for other flavours.. chilli or garlic or mixed herbs or mustard .. add seasoning too..

Don't drench the salad ... toss it to ensure full coverage but don't drown it.. and don't add it until you are just about to serve or you'll wilt everything

For Balsamic vinegar I like this one with the #8 on the front:

Don't buy cheap Balsamic or the glaze variety.

I've never heard of Benenden sauce Cos, just clicked your link and my nearest supplier is 102.8 miles away, in Sleaford!  I love balsamic, a nice thick aged one and I agree, you certainly get what you pay for. I also buy a similar product from Turkey, but made from pomegranates, which I love.
