Brian Clemens has died aged 83. He was a screenwriter for television series such as The Avengers, The New Avengers and The Professionals.

It was only last week that I resaw one of The Avengers episodes - The Town of No Return which was the first episode with Diana Rigg as Emma Peel - he wrote the screenplay for that episode.

There can be no argument that those programmes a pretty fine pieces of work.

I recall when C4 started repeating the Avengers back in their early days. The first series was far more fun, entertaining and quirky than its dullish late 70s follow up. Don't know if Clemens had a hand in both, but the 60s run was a classic in TV.
