I'm guessing that won't work, same as speed limits are broken elsewhere in the country....
Thing is though, a lot of people DO observe the speed limits. so if they observed a 30 mph limit then most of them will also observe a 20 mph limit. Thus the average speed will reduce, which is probably the best they can hope for.

I do and would. But I've always been law abiding.
Not been in since the trams were introduced.
Skylark is our resident.
It will be interesting to see what he/she says.
Reduced to 20 ...to make it safer no doubt
Why not make it 15 ... and make it even safer??
Maybe we should get out and walk.
Everywhere may ground to a halt but the place will be ultra safe
... or we could all stay at home?
TBH, I don't think most people would notice much difference if a 20mph limit was introduced - at least not in the city centre, anyway.
Throughout London, the average traffic speed is less than 20mph, and in the City it's less than 10mph. Edinburgh's better, but not that much.
I can't confirm it myself, but a colleague told me that most of Bath city centre already has a 20mph limit, and Bath's not a bad comparison for Edinburgh...
That is the problem in many areas of life, it's a minority that don't display common sense who cause problems for others.
Yes i live in Edinburgh, as far as i know its local areas i.e where there is a high volume of schools and built up areas. The bypasses remain at 70, i think. There is a huge volume of traffic here, as you can imagine. Not sure if slowing down the traffic is the answer , we shall see....
This may be a ploy for many to take the tram, which is losing money daily ....
I've never managed to stick to 30mph unless I stared at the dial, so 20mph really just means walking.
Do you think there is a market for me to invent a device which can be attached to a car and when they enter a residential area or an area where children are found in numbers, the car is automatically retarded to go no quicker than 20 mph?
Although this would need either road side activation points or work on gps.
I saw a driverless car being demonstrated at CES 2015 in Las Vegas. What came to mind is if there was an accident who would be at fault? You or the car?
