TBH, I don't think most people would notice much difference if a 20mph limit was introduced - at least not in the city centre, anyway.

Throughout London, the average traffic speed is less than 20mph, and in the City it's less than 10mph. Edinburgh's better, but not that much.

I can't confirm it myself, but a colleague told me that most of Bath city centre already has a 20mph limit, and Bath's not a bad comparison for Edinburgh...

That is the problem in many areas of life, it's a minority that don't display common sense who cause problems for others.

Yes i live in Edinburgh, as far as i know its local areas i.e where there is a high volume of schools and built up areas. The bypasses remain at 70, i think. There is a huge volume of traffic here, as you can imagine. Not sure if slowing down the traffic is the answer , we shall see....
This may be a ploy for many to take the tram, which is losing money daily ....

Do you think there is a market for me to invent a device which can be attached to a car and when they enter a residential area or an area where children are found in numbers, the car is automatically retarded to go no quicker than 20 mph?

Although this would need either road side activation points or work on gps.

I saw a driverless car being demonstrated at CES 2015 in Las Vegas. What came to mind is if there was an accident who would be at fault? You or the car?
