Queen and Adam Lambert are performing an exclusive concert on New Year’s Eve from London, close to the iconic landmark of Big Ben, which will be broadcast live on BBC One.

'Queen & Adam Lambert Rock Big Ben Live' will take place in the build up to the clock striking midnight to see in 2015 and continue after the spectacular, world famous fireworks display along the river Thames, which is also live on BBC One

alternatively Tommy Cooper is on for hours on ITV

Meanwhile we've been catching up on Homeland (excellent) quizzes and soaps and footie away games.

I can see their point.  You go to a foreign country and take the piss out of that country in a pretty moronic way, like Top Gear did with their number plates, you can't be surprised if their hothead nationalists take the bait.

I did.

I think I was spoiled by recently re-watching the McEwan/Scales series, Madame. It looked promising so I'm not sure if it was the script or whether some of the casting wasn't quite right.

Dennis Lill will always be Major Benjy for me - Quai Hai! and Steve Pemberton had a tall order following Nigel Hawthorne as Georgie.

I really wanted to like it.  What about you, did you enjoy it?

I watched it too... but unlike Cosi, I'd not seen it before.    Like her though... i just felt I was going to love it, but it was a bit of light froth in a mire of crap this Christmas, not the jewel I thought it was going to be

I watched it and thought they made a fair fist of it but, like Cosi, could not help but compare it to the splendid earlier version.    Also, when she was on screen, I found myself mesmerised by Miss Mapp's alarming teeth.

The McEwan/Scales version was a tough act to follow, though.

Yeah, a fair fist is very a good description, but I'm disappointed that I couldn't like it more;  I wanted to love it and be glad that I'd not missed it.  I guess that's anticipation for you.

I actually liked Mapp's teeth..!  and thought they captured a very familiar likeness to Prunella Scales' facial expressions from the original series.

It's probably why I thought Richardson gave the best performance of all the cast.

Maybe if they repeat it on a weekend when I'm having a duvet day I'll give it a second chance.
