Yes Like 9/11 it still seems unbelievable
...and still no way of knowing who actually did it. The father of one of the victims who is quite prolific doesn't think it was Abdelbaset al-Megrahi. Nightmare.

That's Jim Swire. I've met him, and his analysis of the case is extremely strong. The evidence against Megrahi is virtually non-existent, and the little there is unconvincing, to put it mildly. All they have is a sliver of circuit board of questionable origin, and the word of a Maltese shopkeeper who afterwards disappeared to (I think) New Zealand after being paid ÂĢ1.2 million to testify.
The latest story has referred to the fact that there's still an ongoing investigation into who else was involved, but we were promised years ago that the thawing in relations with Libya would lead to more information in that regard. AFAIK, nothing has turned up in that time: why not? Perhaps because Libya wasn't involved in the first place...
The simple fact is that shortly after the bombing, it became clear that the investigation was concentrating on Syrian involvement. Everything pointed at them. Then Saddam invaded Kuwait, and we (UK and US) desperately needed Syrian support. Cue one of the most dramatic 180 degree turns ever seen in a major criminal investigation...
