Hello all. I'm a little stumped and I'm looking for some guidance.

As some of you know I've been making some promotional videos for some local businesses. What you didn't know was that those local businesses are founded by my friends - so naturally I made those videos for free, and for experience.

Well, it turns out some people, who I don't know, have seen the videos and want me to make a video about their business. One is another artist guy, the other is only a blooming restaurant/bar/pub!!!!

My dilemma is this: should I start charging? I'm not a professional by any means, but I feel that maybe I should be getting something a little extra back aside from experience.

How much should I charge? They're only 3 minute videos, but they do take a while to film and edit.

I've got no business sense whatsoever. Please help.

Inb4 Renton says "Sorry, I don't know. Does that help?"

You definitely need to start charging Rawks.   If you're going to build a reputation you need to make sure people know that you know you've got a value - they should respect you for that and take you seriously as a business.

No idea what the going rate would be, but as a starting point, work out how long you think it would take to make... and what hourly rate you'd expect to be earning and start there?

I have no idea (what you mean) !!!

What you should do is play hard ball and say,

"Your request now forms part of a verbal contract and trying to back out of it shall incur grave consequences cos I knows people, oh yeah.

I could send some of my boys round - fit ya with a pair of concrete galoshes ya old curmudgeon.

Or we can find easy street - ya get me?"

Then you spit on the floor, wipe your nose on the back of your hand, lean nonchalantly on a table and ask if they serve a straight bourbon.

Simple
