Aside from the actual issue itself, it seems like the Tories were worried about a small backbench revolution and were up to some jiggery pokery...

How anyone can vote SNP is beyond understanding.

Alex Salmond has to be one of the most devious, duplicitous and deceitful politicians on the planet.

His dishonesty bars him from having any significant role in UK politics, where higher standards are demanded than the ones he operates by in Scotland.

He lied about legal advice he received with regards EU membership of Scotland following independence. He persistently attempted to deceive about the market's reaction to independence, claiming that the fall of the pound every time polls indicated increased support for independence was mere coincidence. He misrepresented the business community in Scotland, he misrepresented the finances of a possible Scottish state, and misrepresented the future value of North Sea Oil, and even claimed he could prevent passage of foreign fishing  vessels through Scottish waters.

The odious little twat has to be one of the most despicable people in the country and sullies the reputation of politicians everywhere. Thank goodness the Scottish people had the sense to reject his self-serving agenda.
