Under milk wood is the same age as me and thus I found the recent crossword in t'Grauniad quite straightforward. However nothing could prepare me for the surprise at a Zappa gig years ago when he recited the big about Mr Pugh and vats and jeroboams (I can't remember it-I'll have to look it up)

As Swansea girl myself, I've been to lots of Dylan events this year, here and in Laugharne...its been great, I've really grown to appreciate his wonderful poetry..and Under Milkwood too 

I want to read more of his poetry Amythist ... the bits I've come across are beautiful.

The BBC radio performance last Friday of Under Milk Wood from New York, directed and performed by Michael Sheen amongst others. The play is perfect for radio I think. 

 

It has a preamble with Sheen and lasts 2 hours, available on the Radio iPlayer for just under 4 weeks. It is one of my all-time favourite dramas and I've seen plenty!

As a Crimson fan you may have had/still own Starless and Bible Black as I did! 

 

 

I had Under Milk Wood for my O levels narrated by Richard Burton, it made my ears bleed. I'm sure if it had been Anthony Hopkins I would have enjoyed it

There's a line in Fern Hill "All the sun long it was running, it was lovely"

 

I first heard it when I was fifteen and possibly not the most receptive audience for my Higher English teacher ,  but it has always stayed with me ...so evocative of lovely sunny days down the Devon!  

 

I've learned to appreciate him a little more but like Ann  being subjected to RB declaiming Under Milkwood caused lasting damage

I always think he's a bit over-rated.
