Think there was Fluffy  - people lit a candle and there was a service on tv?

Its more a remembrance I think.

Know what you mean though, it looks like an art installation. Think its good to have a focal point maybe?

Celebration to me is flags and banners unfurled....this is 'muted' I think. Therefore time to think about what everyone gave in their life for us

Poppies had no particular significance in 1914.

Fluffs, just wondering if you ever connect with the emotional rather than the literal and having to be 'right' about the 'facts'?

I don't imagine that you have any idea how insensitive some of your comments are : this is one of many!

I agree wth you, Sprout. To me, this is about remembering, with sadness and gratitude, all those who gave their lives so that we could live in freedom.

I can see what Fluffy's getting at... it could be seen as a bit gimmicky and disconnected from the actual history of it? That's what I thought too when I first saw the ceramic poppies. Its beautiful so looks like a celebration.

In contrast, there's an artwork  / monument to the Irish Famine in Dublin which is harrowing to look at and instantly reminds the onlooker of the horrors.

Think the ceramic poppies will be sold for charity though, so that's something?
