So im having a nosey and seeing what i would be looking at if/whenever i pass a test... Cheapest on Gocompare is ÂĢ2375!! on a car that only costs ÂĢ1750 (Peugeot 206 1.4)
Seriously wondering if its worth carrying on!

You might get it cheaper by having one of those boxes put in your car which monitors how safe a driver you are.
For instance:
(which is part of Admiral and is for first time drivers)
That might be a good idea El Loro, i was just shocked... I wasnt expecting that high a quote for a reasonably small car!
I've done another search (moneysupermarket) and their lowest wasÂĢ1300, which is closer to what i had in mind
Thats expensive!!
El Loro's link sounds a better bet, Hope you get it sorted Jen
until you get a couple of years no claim it will be high unfortunately
have you added anyone on as a named driver ? sometimes this reduces it a bit
I'm still having lessons Rog and have yet to book my theory (been doing mock tests and passing by 1 or 2 points) so it will be a while yet! Might have to go for a smaller car too even though i would like to use it to go to Birmingham to visit the family... Might have to look at 1.2 or even 1.1
direct line wont be in the compare lists- you have to that one from their website- but worth seeing what they quote
have you tried adding people with full licences to your quote Jen, where is says other drivers..sometimes that brings it down

Might try that...
I think i remember reading that if you put unemployed that can bump it too... Would it be bad to 'work' 40hrs a week cooking and cleaning for 3 children?
Mrs H and I both posted the same idea, tips and tricks
Endsleigh is another one to compare a quote
these ad on's are ones I used while getting the lad through his first few years in his name but me as a named driver

I think we have both been there and done it maybe to *help*
another one my lad used Jen is Churchill
I cant remember if this comes up on the main compare lists or not
Jen, my youngest son recommends Admiral. He found them to be the cheapest for new drivers. As others have said, adding an experienced driver can cut costs too.
Is there not a "homemaker" option rather than "unemployed", cos you sure aren't unemployed when you are bringing up three kids!
talking about cars I am now off to the local garage for a *quote*
I hit the wrong pedal last night and crashed into the garage door and a pile of concrete blocks the front end looks aright mess this morning

It's not just the car Jen, it's the guestimated risk posed by the driver(s) too.

Ouch, hope your quotes are much cheaper than mine

As a new driver you will be a high risk for insurance companies. I found a few tricks to bring mine down and one of them was naming my sister on the policy.

Naming experienced drivers on the policy will bring the cost down.I also noticed last time I did all this insurance searhing that if you elect not to have a voluntary excess, it brought the cost down, no idea why, but I do that all the time now.
Have you unchecked all the 'extras' boxes for stuff that you don't really want.
I use Budget which is underwritten by Aviva, they are really cheap for me.
Also I think you can go for housewife or whatever the pc equivalent is, rather than unemployed.
Do you garage it at night?
Just insured my car with my son as the other named driver...he hasnt passed his test yet. I went on a comparison website and got a quote for me only..fully comp but no other extras...ÂĢ150 was the best deal so i phoned them and asked how much to add my son and the cheapest they quoted was ÂĢ2000...and then I was told that they were going to try Aviva because Aviva dont charge extra once youve passed your test.I got quoted ÂĢ770.I went direct to Aviva and got us both insured for ÂĢ498 !!!! They factor in how long you've been driving on your provisional as well..and it wont change when he gets his test.

I did this initially when Son was learning - once he passed and we notified he now had a full driving license we were asked who was going to be the main driver on the policy [ using it the most] as it is seen as *fronting* if it was owned and insured in my name but Son would be using it for taking himself to work or College as it was at the time and evenings. They gave us the benefit of the doubt and honoured the remainder of that year but wouldnt renew the policy in my name at renewal [ I cant remember which company this was though]
Hence the nightmare of getting his own vehicle and insurance began .... and I ended up as his named driver as it gave the most discount to him - putting his Dad on didnt make much difference at all
Just done Aviva quote on C3 1.4 and it came in (with no named driver) at ÂĢ967, a massive improvement!

Thats good...I assumed Aviva would be expensive because they advertise so much on the telly! Shows how much I know

Jen, Duds has one of those black box thingies in his car (he's been driving since May this year) and it's been great. He was paying ÂĢ80 a month to start with and now it's down to ÂĢ70 already with the potential to keep dropping over time.
And you can track how you're doing online... 'citing!

Do you stalk him via the black box?
Also with the box is there a chance it go up too?
I'm planning on paying the first year outright so i know after all my hard work to pass it's sorted for whole year.
Oh wow..... ÂĢ20 after 3yr investigation?
