I always find this an interesting talking point, I mean how concerned are we really about the planets resources?

Shipping food and drink products around the world, enjoying a house full of electronic gadgets made by people on low wages in countries with serious human rights issues.

We still like to take holidays involving flights around the world (for some many times a year), how many inefficient vehicles are on our roads?

One could question the environmental impact of holding large scale sporting events involving people from around the world.

Then there is the Internet. Switch off your computers now everyone as there are many server rooms hosting racks and racks of computers and they are there just to serve out Internet lust.

Exactly, it's the first world liberal's guilt trip to bear while benefiting from the fruits of the situation.

I stand guilty of being a hypocrite, just like anyone else in the first world who bemoans the way the planet is being run.

Because I'm a hypocrite (although not of Bono proportions), it doesn't make the global scenario any less immoral nor any less unsustainable.

yeah, but they were probably all yes voters anyway, surely - just wanting to make a gesture.  I know at least one...

Labour leader Ed Miliband will set out a 10-year plan to make Britain a "world class country" in his final conference speech before the general election.

But would any of them be doinganything at all along yjese lines if it hadn't been for the referendum?

Maybe Salmond's cleverer than we give him credit for. Maybe he knew the majority of the electorate weren't quite ready for independence, but that having a referendum would be enough to ruffle a few feathers.
