Daily Mirror video of Chloe Jasmine auditioning as a 16-year-old back in 2006:

I like that she's literally re-invented herself over the intervening 8 years. What she got so wrong as a kid she has got (seemingly) right as an adult.

X Factor's return saw it dominate Saturday night's television, with 43% of the viewing public tuning into its launch episode on ITV.

An average 9.3 million people watched the opening episode, which saw the return of Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Simon Cowell to the judging panel.

This was up slightly on the 9.2 million who watched last year's launch episode.

Former Spice Girl Mel B made her debut as a judge, having filled the same role on the Australian version.

At its peak, 9.8 million were watching as the hopeful singers tried, and often failed, to impress the judges.

The second most watched programme of the night was Doctor Who on BBC One, which had an average of 5.2 million viewers. This was down more than two million on last week's episode, which was Peter Capaldi's full debut in the title role.

X Factor viewers will be able to vote for free for the first time in the latest series.

An app will allow fans to back their favourite acts once the show, which returns this weekend, reaches the live shows stage.

People with tablets and smartphones can download the app for free.

Viewers will be able to cast up to five votes whenever the polls are open and they can back one contestant or a combination.

Kat Hebden, FremantleMedia UK Interactive

It is the first time voting for contestants has been available free of charge since the ITV show launched in 2004.

X Factor reunion: Watch Linzi Martin's awkward audition months after Simon Cowell called her 'bitter'

There's an awkward reunion for Simon Cowell and a singer he used to manage on tonight's X Factor.

As Linzi Martin - who was in Girl Thing and previously starred in this year's Big Reunion on ITV - walked into the room, the situation became very awkward as the pair had a quick catch up.

"I know you Linzi," said a grinning Simon as Linzi then went on to describe how Simon used to manage her group before they were dropped.

Struggling to compose herself as her emotions got the better of her, Linzi spoke about how close the band had been to Simon and then how her life hit rock bottom after they were dropped.

Are boy bands somewhat thin on the ground this season? Maybe last year was overkill and there is a bit of a backlash.

I have seen rumours of a manufactured girl group - i wonder if this will involve members of the less than inspiring 7 piece act that made it through auditions tonight?

Yodeling boy Barclay Beales is back this year – singing rather than yodeling – and not exactly inspiring either. In fact, they appeared to put him through based on his looks and that the girls will love him. Could that be any more shallow or sexist? Have the judges ever blatantly put a girl through based on looks alone? Doubtful! The judges also suggested to Barclay that he might be better in a group rather than as a solo singer – so almost certainly a manufactured boy band at boot camp!
