Media regulator Ofcom has received over 200 complaints about Big Brother 2014: Power Trip in its first week on air, it is reported.
According to The Daily Mail, a total of 209 complaints have been logged in less than seven days – with the majority, 166, concerning Danielle McMahon and Helen Wood‘s explosive post-nominations argument.
The bust-up – which aired during Monday’s ‘Live Surprise’ special and Tuesday’s highlights show – was sparked after Danielle implied that the other female housemates were ‘slags’.
Viewers were offended when Helen – who received a free pass to the series final on Day 2 – mocked the model’s Catholic faith, remarking that she should “stop s****ing Jesus”.
The row was so heated that, for the first time ever, Channel 5 pulled daytime repeats of the highlights episode, believing it was inappropriate for pre-watershed viewers.
Ofcom will assess the complaints before deciding whether to launch an investigation.
Yesterday, Danielle became embroiled in futher controversy after it was discovered that she’d posted homophobic messages on her Twitter page, including one calling for a “poof” to be shot for using the word ‘lush’.
The 25-year-old’s has divided the group with her strict opinions, complaining about their sex-related conversations despite her career in lingerie and topless modelling.
Danielle is currently facing eviction alongside Jale and Tamara, with the first boot-out taking place tomorrow night at 9.00pm and 10.40pm on Channel 5.
