Why does he think the house needs him to stay as he is an important part?

I don't get how he's come to this conclusion

we've not seen him do anything interesting, he kept very quiet during the argument which did work out for him in the end, he's got with a girl which he seems to think will help him along but the viewers can all see she's not interested in him and is just using him for the same reasons
