We went to a club in Hamburg a couple of years ago, and it wasn't all that different from the film Cabaret.

In the early 70's I worked for Avis Car Rental and was sent to Cologne/Bonn airport because my English was better than anyone elses. While there, all staff got hugely cheap flights and, as I had a very good friend in Berlin, I used to fly off there after my shift and come back after 2 days for the beginning of my next shift. Anyway, Berlin had this fantastic vibe (as it always had) and burlesque was everywhere along with French music and the odd genius piano player.

That must have been great Cologne - I'd heard about that Berlin vibe.
