The letter has received more than 3450 comments on Reddit.

There's a chance the note is a hoax orchestrated by the family restaurant chain - as the picture of the letter has the Applebees gift card in full view.

However, most people hail the neighbour's kind words in their comments.

'We need more people like Chris in the world,' one user wrote.

Another commented: 'Wow... how great would the world be if this was the cultural norm.'

All I got offered by my neighbours when we moved in was to come in to theirs for a beer when they were having a party

You'd think moving in beside a couple in their late 70s would mean peace and quite but they have more parties than any young couple I know.  Lovely people though. We had been told they were trouble when we moved in and were a bit wary of them but 7 years later they have proven to be a lot nicer than most in the street.

Mine gave me loads of wash powder samples that they used to deliver I then had years of grief when their granddaughter and lil AIms didn't get on
Aimee

Aims I think that's usually the cause of most street troubles.....kids!  This lot don't have young grandkids so it's all adults visiting them and so far (fingers crossed) we've never had trouble with them.

Rog they are lively but lovely

That letter would have me thinking the man next door is to be avoided.  I hate when neighbours are TOO friendly, I like to keep myself to myself and not have neighbours in and out.

I had no end of trouble with them, I get on with the neighbours as such but even now they turn their noses up because AIms is at uni and their grandchild has a kid  they once had the same teletubbie scooter so I wrote Aimee underneath my daughters scooter and sure enough when devil child broke hers they tried to swap them but I was one step ahead of them

Mind you the bloody noise they make at the weekend or when I'm on holiday is another thing

I have one neighbour (well she lives across the road and up the street) who just seems to travel in and out of everyones houses, gossiping with as many people as she can.  Our sons are best friends so she must have assumed I'd be a good gossiping buddy but when she started telling me one day how she had been saying to her next door neighbour about how rude the woman facing me was I just laughed and said that was your first mistake.....those 2 are very friendly.  She then started asking me what I thought of so and so and I abruptly told her I wouldn't know what they're like coz I don't stand gossiping with half the street to find out.  She barely even smiles at me now when passing.  Hooray.

Awww I am turning into a right old misery these days lol I can't even pretend to like people if they really annoy me.

I can't wait for my OH to get back to work tomorrow so I can cook dinner instead because he is terrible when off.  He talks me into take aways or we'll go for a drive and then he'll say we'll grab chippy on the way home.  I'm easily persuaded but with him being at work I can have dinner made before he gets the chance to suggest different.

Good for you Ells  She sounds like a biddy from hell. I HATE people who just live for gossip like that, especially if  they're always angling to get you involved.

She asks my son loads of questions about me being pregnant.  He plays dumb and says 'I dunno' to everything.  My MIL met her at the park recently and she plonked herself on the bench beside her for an hour asking MIL the same type of questions.  Whyyyy??  I wouldn't give a flying fig if she was pregnant, nevermind ask questions about it.
