I hope I'm wrong, but I always get a bad feeling when Soap writers start talking about how "clever" they are. We've been here before: remember the death of Ronnie's daughter, Danielle? Eastenders were very proud of that storyline, and even made a special "making of" progamme with loads of writers patting themselves on the back over how "clever" they'd been, As it turned out, the viewing public hated it: they considered it a huge mistake and it remains one of the most complained about Soap storylines ever...
