This brought back memories. The first time I heard this word was when the Birmingham band We've Got A Fuzzbox and We're Gonna Use It!! (later shortened to plain "Fuzzbox") brought out their first album "Bostin' Steve Austin".

On the trousers/ankle subject we'd say your trousers aren't speaking to your ankles.

Despite living in Newcastle for over 12 years and only hailing from 20 miles south, I still have to ask Mr Cinds what some things mean.

One that sticks out is the term 'micey' when describing a person. It apparently means argumentative.

tHIS IS ONE i FIND HARD TO EXPLAIn ...............it's a Yorkie thing - Mr Woo's friend always says (when he's talking about someone in particular) - 'You know her - she's the one who used to work in the pub - they call her Jane'.

I'm always waiting to see what her real name is - Why not just say 'her name's Jane' ..............it just sounds funny to me.

Is it just me?

Cumbrian is an old and almost extinct language. Bits survive, principally numbers, in the far west.

1 Yan
2 Tan
3 Tethera
4 Methera
5 Pimp
6 Sethera
7 Lethera
8 Seckera
9 Leckera
10 Dick

Cumbria looks surprisingly similar to my own Westmorland dialect

We reserve all but the first 'yan' for counting sheep now

Do you lot still use la'al commonly?
