EC's dead list has made me sad.. so on a lighter note - New Year's Honours list!
... and I just want to stake my claim as a Sun headline writer by saying

Not a fan of the honours list, they seem to give them away like confetti and in the main don't mean a great deal.

i tend to agree really... I can't stand Katherine Jenkins, but I think Penelope Keith and Angela Lansbury probably deserve something. As you say though.. not as if they mean anything oh and on balance I should also post the next comment..

Three MPs who have been embarrassed over their use of the Parliamentary expenses system are knighted in the New Year honours list.
Under changes brought in in 2012 by David Cameron, the Prime Minister, MPs are now regularly given knighthoods at the New Year and Queen's birthday honours every June.
MPs are considered by an eight strong committee, chaired by Tory grandee Sir Michael Spicer and comprising the partiesâ chief whips and other lay members.
In the New Yearâs honours list today Peter Luff and Kevin Barron, who both had to defend their expense claims, are given knighthoods.
Richard Ottaway, Conservative MP for Croydon South who was under fire last month for renting his office from his local party, is also knighted.
This is probably not a universal view, but I really think David Beckham shouldn't have been overlooked. He probably contributes (and motivates) more to charity than the Queen herself and has done so for the last 15 years.

edit.. hang on though - doesn't he have some sort of honour already?
edit again... nah, an OBE's fair enough I think at his age... plenty time to knight him when he's older.
