I'm just watching an interview with Ferm Britton and thinking about his act I can't say I found any of it funny.
For me some of his contemporaries were light years ahead in terms of comedy.

Ah, another thing, he uses puppets which I hate.
Loved him and the Diddy Men when I was a child. Don't find him so funny now, as tastes have changed.
Try watching Arthur Askey

Same here! Years ago a work colleague went to see him and she said she'd never laughed so much on her life - but, as you say, tastes have changed!
I never used to get him when I was growing up, and then I saw one of those ITV 'An audience with' things that he did in the 90s. I laughed until I cried
I don't find Morecambe and Wise that funny any more - but strangely The Two Ronnies still crack me up.

People say tastes change but they also stay the same.
I still find the above two sets of comedians funny even though I have seen all their routines before.
^^ ditto He like all comedians had a particular talent for a particular time. Not a bad singer either.. Pity his face let him down
I loved Dave Allen as well, his sit down comedy was a scream.. Not any more. I listen to him now (on the Tube) and

Yes me too! Wonder is it because other comedians copied his act and we've seen it so often, its tired now?
Recently I saw a clip of the late great Dave Allen, and it struck me that Dylan Moran's stand up is more or less an impersonation... mannerisms and all.
This is the sort of stuff I still find funny, alongside Eddy Izard, Bill Bailey and the guy from Black Books.
The guy from Black Books is Dylan Moran cologne he's brilliant in that Last time I saw his stand up though it just seemed a copy of Dave Allen.
Agree on Bill Bailey and Eddie Izzard

Yes I thought that, but he's so cute, I forgive him. Dave Allen was a bit sharper IMHO and I still love him. When I was very young we didn't have a TV and my parents listened to a lot of radio, I always chose an English wavelength and laughed when the audience laughed with no idea what it was about.

Awwww
I remember the first time I got a double entendre type joke - I laughed and laughed and my Dad thought it was hialrious i got it
The Goons, most over rated and unfunny things I've ever heard, Comedy from that era was so poor.
I went to a recording of Dave Allen's show, he was hilarious and I think that what was finally aired wasn't as funny as the stuff that didn't make the edit for BBC. I loved him back then

They weren't that funny even in their own era
I watched the same interview and I found Fern Britton laughing at everything very phoney.
I didn't find it funny or him funny. It all seemed very infantile. Much like the Goons, which I find very childish. I can see why Ken Dodd would appeal to children at the time, but I wouldn't even say it's as witty or as sophisticated as children's light hearted comedy programming and films shown now.

That's brilliant, one of the priceless memories.

Once again we agree EC

Remember that when you see my "I'm going out with my mates thread".
Isn't this a case of time/we all move on though? What we once found funny we don't any more?

His tickling stick never amused me Sprout.
Lee Mack - Bill Bailey - Tim Vine

Isn't Doddy quoted as saying if you don't like a joke there'll be another one along immediately after?
I know my parents went to see him 'live' - they never got out of the auditorium until 4 hours later..! He's well known for his lock-ins.
So I suppose if you like him, he's value for money if nothing else.
If you don't - you're b*ggered

Nah, it didn't me either Sydlers, but some of the stories he used to come out with were funny

Perhaps away from the TV Diddy Men, he was funny, that's all I saw.
I know I found Bob Monkhouse cheesy until I heard him off telly.

I've heard that too. He had to be practically dragged off the stage at the Palladium once

Yeah, apparently he was sposed to be very 'blue'

Still no Lester Piggott.
Who's no Pat Eddery.
