My worst turkey disaster was[following some recipe or other ] I turned it upside down to let the juices run down to the drier breast meat. However all the breast skin stuck to the foil + got ripped off. It looked like the cat had been at it.

Tasted ok though.

Darby and Joan  this year for  Christmas Day lunch  so will probably be steak and chips  or a mixed grill   a full house and christmas lunch to cook for on Boxing day  

has anyone ever cooked Phil Vickerys  christmas leftover pie ? looks quite tasty

I've cooked the pie Mrs H ....................my husband absolutely adores it. I often do him a similar pie with the left over Sunday roast. I'm not big on pies myself but I can honestly say this one is very nice.

Oh and I am going to have a big dollop of ice cream for pudding. Washed down with diet coke. Very little washing up to do.

I have duck, I don't like turkey very much; red cabbage, sprouts and potatoe knoedel (like giant gnochi). my daughter will bring her turkey over on Christmas Eve and it will go in a warm oven overnight. The thing I like best is the gravy and, like some others here, Boxing Day picking.

My kids have decided they want turkey and ham.  I'll do a chicken instead of turkey though because I like chicken better.  They are chalk and cheese when it comes to the rest of the dinner though.  One wants it with mash, roasties, yorkshire, carrots, broccoli, stuffing and gravy while the other just wants meat and garlic potatoes.  I'll have the whole lot the same as the eldest and my OH will eat exactly the same as the youngest which is quite boring tbh but that's all they want.

They can't decide on starters or desserts yet because I don't think there's any 1 thing that we all agree on!!

I agree I like the Boxing Day meal

We have turkey crown and the usual. For pudding we have xmas pud but my hubby is also making a lemon and limoncello mousse

ooooh - I fancy the sound of that.  

My nieces are cooking dinner this year (at my sister's)  while my sis and I sit on our bums and amuse the children.     Homemade soup, or prawn cocktail,  Turkey, meat loaf instead of stuffing (actually I have to make that) roasties, mash, various veg, gravy, bread sauce, cranberry sauce, we don't do yorkies up here with turkey (a great failing imo) Christmas pud (not for me) trifle and a chocolate cake of some sort probably.

Boxing day we're going to the golf club for lunch with my bro and his family so it's a nice restful one this year (on the cooking front at least)

Ooh trifle, I love that!  There's no point in me making one though because youngest doesn't like fruit in the trifle (although I suppose I could just do jelly and sponge base) and eldest doesn't like cream....but I could add that after it's been served.  Hmmm I think that could be the dessert sorted now then

I am extremely disappointed that not one person  is going to attempt a "foam" this year. I know an "air" is probably ambitious, but come on, give foam a go.

i just thought i'd tell u that

Oh crap Pirate, if you can't get it fixed before xmas try buying one of those counter top ovens.  We had one in the caravan and it was able to cook a large chicken really easily although I know they do come in various capacity sizes so check it's big enough first.

bloke came today & reckons he'll get us a new one by next week

he was still pissed from last night-so i think its best we buy one ourselves

no good getting a small oven cos we gotta have the whole thing out & replaced

I never do a starter on Christmas day

main course is turkey breast and nigella's gammon in coke  

pudding will be a tiny Heston with clementine christmas pud, something  made with apple that I cooked and froze back in the autumn, and probably some fresh strawberries.

we have got a much quieter house this Christmas, which has made lunch a whole lot easier. All I have to think about is the vegan, the diabetic and the blind (so no small bones in the food). That's a breeze compared to previous years!!

I have no idea this year, because My son in law is cooking for us at their place

Given the numbers, I stick to traditional with a side order of nervous breakdown. 

All I know atm is I want to buy a turkey crown, haven't got round to it yet as I buy and do everything late  Never had one before till last year, it cooked perfectly
