I liked the original programme but I'm not sure it would work without Ronnie Barker.

Really?! Ooooooh, I'm not sure how I feel about that, I love Ronnie Barker and it would be strange without him.
Having said that, David is superb and he could easily carry the episode on his own.

As a severe stammerer as a child i found it really rather hurtful

Then again I might just watch it to see if it's as bad as the original!

Nooooo don't change things - it was ages ago and i know it was meant as a lighthearted comedy.

But i couldn't watch it - i kinda found it humiliating.

 

It never really leaves you - occasionally i can't get a word out - never understood why.

 

I will leave it as it is now Saint, I would prefer to respect what you have said about your experiences and how the show made you feel.

 

I can only see it working if they draft in Clare Danes as Nurse Gladys Emmanuel like.

Seems a bit dated.  I'd imagine that hardware and general stores like Arkwright's no longer exist. 

 

Best to leave alone, the cast in the original were right for the show but I doubt similar scenes and set ups would work for today's audiences.

She could wear the nurse's outfit out of the sazbomb thread. That would probably work for me.
