Mrs Jer and I probably smoke twenty a week between us, but had noticed an increase in the use of these electronic ones. As I set off for the mainland we bought an e-lite each. I've hardly touched mine but had a few normal tabs on Saturday night.
I haven't seen a single one in Belgium or Germany and in fact just saw a group of Belgian pensioners almost fight to get out to the front of the hotel to have a post petit dejeuner gasper.
So, my question is, have any of you experienced them, seen them , do you think they are a passing phase?
Any comment whatsoever from St Renton would also help, even if he knows nothing about them.

Yup I have had a leccy ciggy for a good few yrs now... supermarkets even sell them..  I don't really go places as I don't do the going out thing but I know loads of people use them.. some as a way to give up smoking, tho they don't stop the muscle memory of hand to mouth, especially if you virtually chain smoke like me so hand to mouth is a constant all day long near enough.

On the odd occasion that I have gone somewhere I have used them in a  pub and restaurant.. one place wanted to say no you can't smoke and I said I aint smoking  ...  it's just like having your personal miniature Bong with you.

I do find them a bit heavy to hold in a ciggy way so not natural feeling and also unlike a normal ciggy you have no idea when you have finished it.. sounds weird but you know when you get to the end of a normal ciggy and put it out.. with these it's like, am I there yet

They have changed a lot since I got mine so may be less heavy and bulky. .there are some good vapes out there tho ..I have marlboro and Cigar flavour so they taste like a real cig.. you can get fruit flavours too... need a good bit of puff to get a toke sometimes

dunno if that helped

I started with an e-light GJ, and then moved on to a skycig that look more like a cigarette are much lighter and taste much better. I now use a shisha pen and eliquid, but its far better than smoking, far cheaper and your clothes don't stink.

I really don't think they are a passing phrase, I wouldn't want to start smoking again and its a far safer and cheaper alternative.

Withing a week of stopping smoking, I noticed a massive difference in my breathing. Only trouble is, the government is now looking at them as an alternative to help people off cigarettes.. expect a massive hike in prices coming your way soon

skycig is on special offer

http://www.skycig.co.uk/  which I still use when out and about.

but I use these whilst with friends and in the home...a far cheaper option and try can try all sorts of different tastes without too much expense

Dame on that skycig is the bottom half the battery? I find that is the 'heavy' bit on mine..  and I've got the older type where the atomiser and filter with vaper are separate ..think they do an all in one 'cartomiser' now

they are easy to refill tho and the liquid goes a long way. .I just know I have to get used to using them all the time. . haven't as yet. . am still on small little roll ups with filter and a half to make it less baccy inside and not so yellow fingers, plus cheap asda pipe baccy . .cough is going good..

I get mine here Electric Cigarette Company and the liquid from Totally Wicked which is linked to on their site. the price is a third of what it used to be when I first got mine

I first read your post as you smoke 20 a day between you. .not 20 a week.. I don't think I've ever smoked as few as that ..wish I could ..

The skycig is much lighter than the e-light Olly and they have offers on every few weeks,,,I used to fill my own sky carts...but I much prefer the shisha, its heavier...but the taste and throat hit is a 100% better that an electric ciggie  I found some lovely e-liquid by accident and then found the site on line...50 mls for 13.99 free delivery and I love it. I can buy a shisha 1100 off ebay for under a tenner and the battery lasts all day,  e-liquid with nicotine is easy to find on ebay too, even though they are not supposed to do it

blimey my atomisers last months. . actually more like yrs as I've never had to replace them... tho I don't use my e cig that often.. I'd say it weighs the same as a AA battery... which in comparison to a real ciggy is quite heavy. . plus I wish they'd roughen up the outside as the plastic is too smooth and slippery so doesn't have the grip that paper does..

The place I bought mine from has a cheap Friday every week... most new sets are around the 20 quid mark which is ded cheap. .I paid nearly ÂĢ80 in total to get started.. but it is hard to get the full on throat hit as you say cos you need to puff really hard for that..

I've never heard of a shisha before.. that's a new one on me. .will have to make a note to go looking next month.. am all spent out of my tiny budget for extra's this month as a few household things have needed replacing as all broke at the same time as is usually the case under Murphy's Law..

ÂĢ20 isn't bad for a starter kit  I don't mind buying the clearomizers. I think its a much better smoke than a electric cigarette Olly I bought 5 new ones off ebay for ÂĢ7 and they will last me months and for a much better smoke, so the little extra is worth it to keep me off the cigarettes.

A shisha is just a miniature hooka, more or less works on the same principal..batteries come in 650, 900, 1100 and 13/1400...and the batteries last about 300 charges roughly, much longer than the e cigarette and the bottom replacement battery is about ÂĢ6 to replace.

I buy 18mg of Virginia or UK bland, I also have one filled with 18mg of menthol for now and again...I've found this much more like having a real cigarette than any electric cigarette...although they are heavyish

When I packed in I was on between 30-40 a day , I rarely have one now..sometimes if I'm out and have had a drink..my daughter tempts me with one  To be honest, the next day I never think about them again and I've not bought any since the day I stopped ten months ago.

Dame_Ann_Average

Actually  . . . . i have tried an e-lite.

But as i'm not a smoker i doubt i can help.

(Pipe smoking is not the same as ciggie smoking by-the-way)

My friends say:

It's heavy - you never come to the end of it - the end glows green!!

AND if you suck too hard OR when you're coming to the end of the 'vial' a nasty liquid can jump into your mouth.

Having said that they said it was just like the real thing

Me mate had one and persisted for a few months.

Not long ago i asked how it was going.

She scrunched up her face, shook her head and just said "Nah mate"

Well I stopped smoking over 20 years ago with the aid of Nicorette chewing gum over 20 years ago. I'm still on then to this day

I noticed a lot of people on holiday using these e cigs ..... also the cafe in our hotel had shisha pipes (is that what they call them)? It sort of reminded me of a Victorian Opium den - lots of plush sofas draped in curtains - fascinating.

Moonie

where do you get the shisha from Dame .. I'd be curious to have a try at some point, tho am all spent out this month already and still got my monthly shop to do too tho that is sorta covered my little left for extras is gone

Also how big is it? I wouldn't want a hooka size thing, bit big for the handbag

I dunno if I really want to give up smoking yet, tho my chest is gone to pot and the do you cough a lot ads are me to a tee but, it's all I have left in my life tbh [yup I am one of those sad b'stards with no life just me and the cat ] ,  but if I could find a fake ciggy that felt the same I may start smoking less and even stop altogether..  I only ever tried stopping once and I got the worst ever nicotine withdrawal  . .this was pre nicotine patches and gum. . I was shaking and hallucinating and had tears streaming down my face and thought I was going off my head. . my mother was so worried she forced me to have one of her cigs. .it scared me so much I never tried stopping again. . and I still really love smoking which doesn't help either..

Mount Olympus *Olly*

I didn't think I could stop Olly, but I wish I had found the shisha pens before e cigarette's, only trouble is I like them and can't see me coming off them anytime soon...good luck though

My 1100 batteries are 9 and a half centimeters long Olly, with cleaomizer on the end about 15, so roughly 6 inches...width is 4.5 centimeteres and fits into the side pocket of my handbag easily.. beware they are on the heavy side Olly, but worth it for the better vape

everything you need to get started here Olly.... shop about and don't buy a kit, its much cheaper to buy spares and stuff separate,  http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1311.R1.TR10.TRC0.A0.Xshisha&_nkw=shisha+pen&_sacat=0&_from=R40

and link on how to clean the clearomizer out, they can last a couple of fills or a couple of weeks before they need a clean, so buy a spare clearomizer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsXkEhNufMs..step by step on how to clean them, I use his instructions and its dummy proof, it needs to be for me  Hope this helps

i'm reading this thread & its making me

all this talk of "throat hits" & "cigar flavoured" (oh I do love the smell of a cigar..  & was quite partial to a hamlet back when MrD smoked em)...

I hadn't really taken any notice of e-cigs right up til they hit the news headlines a few months ago!   Thankfully (I think) I had already just given up totally, using Champix & ALlen Carrs Easyway!

A little part of me wishes I'd heard of em before - cos I know I would have convinced myself it was the perfect solution!

Even now there is a teeeny weeeeny part of me that wants to try one!

but -  I haven't smoked for 76 days!   And I rarely have cravings anymore.  And (according to my smoke free app on my phone) I have saved ÂĢ906, and not smoked 2295 cigarettes!

I can't go back to it..    it was the last thing I ever did that made my Mum proud!   <<<<<  this more than anything else means its a done deal!

Mum only smoked 3 a day btw Joe...     20 a week!    And she still got non small cell squamous cell lung cancer..  THE cancer directly linked to smoking!   If you go to any of the cancer forums  the predominent cancer people are posting about is this cancer (followed by breast & then bowel)..

its scary!

Sorry...    never wanted to turn into a horrible ex smoking preacher..   and I would have hated to read this post when I was a smoker.. .   but then I also remember how gutted my Mum was that she had "brought this on herself, and her family"

Dirtyprettygirlthing

I've come back in here cos I am wracked with guilt that I might have just posted a smug ex-smoker post...

sorry if I have...

I am an ex smoker..   but I am not that smug...   well not 'smug over smokers' smug...

I am just sad...     sad cos it stole my Mum from us..   (having a really really bad Mum day anyway today)..    sad in case it steals any of you lot away...

but..    I am trying really really hard not to go on a highly irritating anti smoking crusade..

so...   as you were

Dirtyprettygirlthing

Ditty

I know of people who have died of lung cancer who never smoked a day in their life nor been around people that did...  I do think that some of us are going to get cancer of some sort, and if we do certain things we may get it slightly earlier than we would have, but I firmly believe if we didn't do those certain things, like smoking, we'd still get it anyway.. so all we are doing that is our fault as such is bringing it forward a bit.. if that makes sense of it all . .the message I am trying to send I think is there is no blame to be made

Thanks dame I'll keep those links and have a look. .that sisha does sound a tad huge and heavy tho

Mount Olympus *Olly*

Ditty My mum is 82 .....she's smoked every day since she was 14. She argues with me that my Dad died aged 58 never having smoked a cigarette in his life (bowel cancer). She also says 'well everyone I know who's given up smoking has died soon after'. She conveniently forgets that those people only gave up because they had lung cancer.

The thing is her quality of life is seriously impaired as she has chronic emphysema ........it's her life but I do find it sad seeing her struggle every day.

I'll never nag anyone to give up - but ......I'm so glad I stopped and I'll do everything in my power to dissuade and educate my grand sons re smoking.

Soozy Woo

Awww dirty pretty thing forgive me if Is not joined up

3x4 packs a day I ran out scanned the waste bins for the ends to roll and that was not the first time ..I gave up that day ,not easy I still love the wiff of second hand smoke .....and can't complain about folks who do indulge ...each too their own ,,,after a drink I long for a ciggie

Why do you think you are being smug ...far from It your opinion and good luck xx

Soozy i think it is easier nowadays to dissuade the young uns from starting. . in my day I remember even my Doctor used to bum a fag off me when I was in his surgery..  we smoked at our desks at work . . everyone smoked near enough.. if you were like me and loved it from the very first puff it was easier to get hooked..  the grandkids should be more up for not even starting ever now with all that is known about it, if not the cancer but the emphysema and other problems..

Smoking has caused me problems but more in a 'head/mental' way as my agoraphobia got a lot worse when the law banning smoking in pubs/restaurants/social setting places came out because it made it even less likely that I would even try to go anywhere, on one of my less anxious/panicky days, as I knew I couldn't even have a fag to try and calm down and just the knowing I can't have one makes me anxious and crave one even more... unless I wanted to sit outside on the street on my own. . tho the leccy ciggy would have helped when that started but wasn't around or well known then... so if anything smoking has made me worse but in a mental in the head way. . as well as the cough too..

Mount Olympus *Olly*

Olly

can't disagree I loved smoking put one in my hand now ...and I would puff away

the expense though...to be honest one ciggy and methinkks I would be back

I would not give up cos I loved a puff from around 14  a tab from someone

OLLY your post touched me you take care ,If that sounds false believe me Its not meant that way xxx

oooh blimey I couldn't afford to smoke proper ciggies anymore. .it's rolleys for me now. .I buy Asda cheap Bayside pipe tobacco.. just under ÂĢ17 for 100g drum..  I do have some cartons of proper ones but they were duty free that friends got and I have one a day in the morning. .it's my 'must have a ciggie before getting out of bed' ciggie and a rolley is too strong at that time even with filters.. See what I mean about being a serious smoker. . can't even get out of bed without a puff..

then if I do go out I have a proper one while driving cos rolleys are far to dangerous to smoke in the car. . I have enough tops full of holes form rolley burn drop off as it is, in the car the burning ash drop off is likely to cause an accident. .  rolleys go out really quickly too which is also good for me as later in the evening I can drop off in the middle of a ciggie with no warning and that's a whole load of other danger real cigs could cause as they stay lit for longer..

Mount Olympus *Olly*

it's scented vapour. . a coil of sorts powered by a battery heats up the liquid and when you puff you pull the liquis thru the atomiser.. so basically you are smoking 'heavy' steam that looks like smoke but isn't

Go out on a very foggy or misty day and breathe in deeply. .same difference except it's mainly water and whatever crap is in the air from vehicle exhausts and plane fuel too etc
