I get you Baz  I've not worked out how much mine is Angel, I had a letter from my energy supplier saying they have estimated mine (duel) will be a ÂĢ1000 for the year  I spend more on fuel than food

I'm hoping it might come down a bit now my daughter isn't going to be here so much, she was always putting the hot water on

Do you find it works out cheaper that way? My boiler engineer bloke reckons it does but I don't want it coming on if I'm not in or not cold etc

I don't really know Aims. All I know is I got money back the year before and ended up owing them ÂĢ200 on the gas this year  leccy not so bad.

If I don't need it on I just switch it off completely

My heating will go on when a series of trigger points are activated.

Weather turns too cold that it affects room temperature too much

Wearing a reasonable amount of clothing in the house is not affective in keeping me warm.

The temperature in the bedroom is too low so as to require more than a small number of additional clothing on in bed.

I see breath...

We have ours on 24hrs a day once the cold weather kicks in.  I'm sure it's more economical as the boiler never really has to go into overdrive to heat the house.  We just tweak the thermostat if the temp drops/rises too much, but generally it's on about 20.

Possibly is cheaper if you have a very efficient boiler, top-rate insulation and keep the thermostat to a reasonable setting as you do!

I think our boiler could power the QE 2 - it's a beast.  But then again, I hate being cold, so I think Mr. C took a view on it: burning ears (from my nagging) or a burning hot house

I've had all the insulation done but one bloke told me it's all to do with where your thermostat is, mines in the living room so when that room hits 20 the heating goes off and then fires up again when it gets colder but upstairs may not have reached the same temperature when it decides to turn off

But, don't you prefer it cooler in the bedrooms anyway?

You could always get the thermostat moved....?

Get that thermostat moved, Aimee   It's a 5 minute job, so I doubt you'll be charge too much.

Looking in to it

Me neither! I don't have the heating on in the bedroom except in the depths of winter,

kimota

I finally put a long sleeve top on at the weekend. .Am still in knee length shorts tho..

Heating doesn't go on til the clocks change and later if tis not too cold. . more layers go on instead.. same in spring, Heating goes off when clocks change and layers/thickness of clothes get reduced

I don't like to be too hot anyway.. if it is cold I warm up really quickly then I stay too hot for ages after which I hate..  the summer was a killer for me this yr, am only just cooling down now after months of being too hot all the time

Mount Olympus *Olly*

It;s been on randomly since last week.  It's been on three times today though because it's so cold out and the youngest is sick.

Usually I'll get up 20 minutes before everyone else in the morning and decide whether it's cold enough for the heating to go on.  I don't like having it on the timer because some mornings it's way too warm.  Nearer November I'll put the timer on though.

I also put it on a half hour before the kids go to bed so their rooms are nice and warm for bedtime.

If it's just me at home I refuse to put the heating on unless I've tried socks, houseboots and a jumper and am still really cold.
