Help me out peeps please  Has anyone done this and what are the problems (if any)

I want a new lappy but it has to be Windows 7 rather than 8. The only shops that I can get to without any bother are Argos and John Lewis and neither of them do Win 7. So I thought...go the manufacturer's site and see what they've got. There's two there that might do the trick and I don't know whether to go for one or not.

Thanks in advance for any replies

The same as what I have EC Toshiba. Either one of the top two here

Should I also say I'm on Vista at the moment but I don't think I'm ready to move up to 8 yet

The only reason I have not tried Windows 8 is that I have had a lot of bad reports and also that they will be pushing out an update to make it a shade more W7, but not too much W7 !

Have you looked at Samsung and Acer for laptops?

I know people who have used them and they like them.

Kinda like me too EC. The lack of a start button for one (although I think you can download a programme now) and just the tile/apps thing. It doesn't appeal to me, not on a computer anyway. and Rexi's post above seems to bear things out.

I haven't looked at Acer or Samsungs. It's just what I got after I discarded my desktop but this lappy is old now and isn't playing the game any more

Well that is good in one way, you don't need a super powerful computer. So you can save money.

Have a look at these and see if anything grabs you.

Edit: I guess you need to think about the type of laptop you want, screen size, RAM, hard drive space etc. That will help narrow your choices down.

I came up with two from The Tosh site which I sent in a mail to my niece and asked her to have a look at them. She said she'd had a quick look, but would have a better one and get back to me last week. She hasn't as yet, but I've gone back to the link and it's down to one lappy now  One of them isn't there any more. I don't know whether to jut order and be done with it.
